ARCHIVED Need A Little Advice, If You Will...
lovegrov replied to jools's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You will be perfectly healthy as long as you stay gluten-free. If the stuff you are taking is a probiotic I'd keep taking it for a while, as long as it's gluten-free. The "rash" could be DH. I'd avoid iodine for a while as well as being gluten-free. If the rash is DH, it will slowly disappear. richard -
Although some sour cream has MFS and must be checked, virtually every sour cream I've ever checked on has been gluten-free -- Breakstone, Kroger, Daisy. If the Outback menu didn't tell you to avoid the sour cream, that means the sour cream is gluten-free. richard

Peanuts are safe and popcorn should be. You can probably have the hot dog without the bun but check on the brand. Nathan's does have wheat, but just about every other dog I've checked has been gluten-free. If the park has those turkey legs they seem to be safe most times. richard

ARCHIVED Sushi & Indian Food
lovegrov replied to abennis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The marinated eel has soy sauce. The spicy tuna can also have gluten. In addition, stay away from the orange colored roe (some brands might be gluten-free but the one I looked at one time wasn't) and the fake crab. Otherwise, eat and enjoy. I don't know enough about Indian food to comment but I do know there are some safe choices. richard -
Taco Bell has almost nothing that's gluten-free. Even the taco beef has wheat. Don't bother. richard

ARCHIVED Fleming's Prime Steakhouse
lovegrov replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
And add Bonefish Grill to the list of Outback restaurants with a gluten-free menu. richard -
ARCHIVED Got Some Questions About Gf Living.
lovegrov replied to Alexolua's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Commenting on one thing in the last post -- iodine is not a problem unless you have DH. And even then once the DH is gone, you can resume eating iodine. richard -
ARCHIVED Jello Or Pudding
lovegrov replied to AmyandSabastian's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Folks the Kraft page about gluten (I don't have the exact address; you'd have to go to kraft.com and search around) says they will clearly list any gluten, not just wheat. So if it had barley, which is very rare in itself, it would say so. richard -
ARCHIVED Post And Kelloggs
lovegrov replied to murda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Post has a couple of cereals that are technically gluten-free and some people do eat them (I have a couple of times) but there's good reason for the warnings from the companies. The plants are filled with gluten dust and cleaning the lines thoroughly is nigh impossible. richard -
ARCHIVED Honey Cereal?
lovegrov replied to azza's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If I remember correctly you'd also have to check on the glucose syrup, which contains dextrin. I wouldn't eat this product without tlaking to the company. richard -
ARCHIVED California Rolls
lovegrov replied to j9n's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Each time I've checked a wasabi it's been fine. I agree with using the powder amd mixing your own. richard -
ARCHIVED Mike And Ike Candy
lovegrov replied to carleyq's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Before you panic or panic anybody else you should call the company and ask. Here's the number. Consumer Relations team toll-free at 1-888-645-3453. Mike and Ike is made by JustBorn and everything or nearly everything they make is gluten-free. In addition, while it's true that MFS can be from wheat, it very rarely is. richard -
ARCHIVED California Rolls
lovegrov replied to j9n's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been told there are imitation crabs that don't have wheat but I have yet to find them. The marinated eel has soy sauce, as do at least some brands of the orange fish roe. Spciy tuna filling could also have soy sauce depending on the chef. The rest should be fine. richard -
ARCHIVED Help Me Please!
lovegrov replied to Eclipse's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is not normal. You might have celiac disease but there's obviously something else going on. richard -
ARCHIVED Kellogg's Pops
lovegrov replied to AmyandSabastian's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was thinking of plain rice and corn type cereals, not bowls of sugar like Fruity Pebbles. I should have been more specific. richard -
ARCHIVED Reading Blood Test Results?
lovegrov replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Eosinophils are white blood cells that are responsible for combatting infection by parasites that enter the bloodstream. These cells, transparent in vivo, appear brick-red when stained by the Romanowsky method. The red colour is visible as small granules within the cell. These granules contain histamine, and other chemicals that are toxic to both parasites... -
ARCHIVED 3 Yr Old/endoscopy?
lovegrov replied to karen149's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A quick warning -- if your child is an obvious classic case and the bloodwork confirms that, do not doubt it if the biopsy comes back negative. Sometimes biopsies miss the damage (not problem on mine, my villi were as flat as linoleum). If you're sure she has celiac, stay gluten-free no matter what the biopsy says. richard -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated With Doctors!
lovegrov replied to j9n's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are "borderline" celiac, then you have celiac. Period. Go gluten-free. Please don't be intimidated by the post telling you to also avoid dairy, soy, corn, buckwheat etc. Some people do also have some of these intolerances but the majority do not. The only thing I had to avoid was gluten. But the basic advice to eat simply at first is good. Start... -
ARCHIVED Clabber Girl Baking Products
lovegrov replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just an FYI -- baking soda should always be gluten-free no matter what the brand. richard -
ARCHIVED Pre-biopsy
lovegrov replied to EddieJP125's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I personally think you should be eating gluten up until the biopsy, but if you've been gluten-free for just a couple of weeks, any damage will not have healed completely. richard -
ARCHIVED Kellogg's Pops
lovegrov replied to AmyandSabastian's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The common corn and rice cereals (Post, Kellog, companies like that) ALL have malt flavoring. richard -
ARCHIVED Going Off Of Gluten Free Diet
lovegrov replied to Susan123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I assumed she was doing a challenge. richard -
ARCHIVED Lemonade
lovegrov replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think this is a personal choice. Some people call about absolutely everything and grill every person about what else is made in the plant, line cleaning techniques etc.. I've now been gluten-free for nearly three years and if a company either tells me it will clearly list any gluten or if the ingredient list is as simple as your example, I don't call. ... -
ARCHIVED Malibu Rum
lovegrov replied to chuot's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Of course I can't guarantee every cola out there is gluten-free, but even the cheap ones I've called about in the past have been gluten-free. In the scheme of things celiac, cola is just one I don't worry about. richard -
ARCHIVED I Need The Panel For Infant Testing
lovegrov replied to AmyandSabastian's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
And the infant is too young to be tested accurately. Even if he were eating gluten his system wouldn't produce the antibodies. Don't waste your time testing him. Tests are the same for everybody. Total Iga, Iga, Igg, and Ttg or endymosial (sp?) antibody. Your doctor should be able to double check with whatever lab and they'd know this. richard
