  1. This is particularly good news because this was one of the chains that used to tell us to eat elsewhere. After a number of people wrote they buckled down and looked at the menu. richard
  2. ALL Wrigley's gums. richard
  3. Hot wings are like anything else, you need to check them out individually. Frank's Red Hot sauce (all flavors) is gluten-free and it's got a great and simple recipe on the back. Mix Frank's with some butter, broil the wings in the oven, and dip. Amazingly good without going to a lot of trouble. And Frank's isn't so hot you can't taste anything. As for...
  4. Of course I have no idea whether your daughter had it, but I CAN tell you that less than 50 percent of people with celiac disease have the diarrhea (this from the experts at the NIH conference this week). According to one expert, the very most common symptom is fatigue, which it sounds like your daughter does have. If your skin condition is indeed DH,...
  5. For your kids' sake if not for yours, you need to get more paranoid about contamination. All of you may get to the point where even crumbs make you sick. And even if you don't feel sick, the gluten is doing internal damage. richard
  6. ALL Crest toothpastes are gluten-free. Colgate is gluten-free. Arm and Hammer is gluten-free. Virtually every toothpaste I've ever heard of is gluten-free. richard
  7. Off the top of my head the odds of any first-degree relative having it are 1 in 33, but it becomes much, much more likely if a relative has symptoms. Both of my siblings got tested (negative) but then they had seen how suddenly I had gotten deathly ill. My father, with no obvious symptoms at all, was positive. richard
  8. The cost of the test depends on where you live and who does it. Mine were something under $300 (for blood tests) but I've seen higher elsewhere. Of course a biopsy costs a good deal more. The controversy over Dr. Fine's tests stem from the apparent high percetage of people he finds gluten sensitive, and the fact the he won't disclose exactly how makes...
  9. Do you have the money for the blood tests? If so, what does it matter how expensive they are? richard
  10. Are you fully aware of cross contamination issues? If you have any doubt, go here to look at things you should consider. Some might sound a little anal, but if her levels aren't going down, it's time to look at everything. Open Original Shared Link Do you all eat out a lot? If so, she's getting gluten at restaurants. The only other way I can think...
  11. Well Pegster, if you can get to Roanoke, Va..... richard
  12. Every July 4 we block off our street and have a block party along with the huge potluck. I was really depressed about this the first year but I took some good stuff and a few very understanding neighbors talked to me and made something gluten-free. In addition, there's one other neighbor who eats gluten-free because she's gluten intolerant. Now I use this...
  13. I went from 130 to 210, but I also gained a lot of weright. Since losing most of it I'm now at 180. Many people with untreated celiac have abnormally low cholesterol (like 127). The cholesterol rises when you go gluten-free because you suddenly strart absorbing all that stuff that raises cholesterol. Some people can change diet and take natural things...
  14. Last I heard ALL Banana Boats were gluten-free. I believe someone on another list just confirmed that, in fact. I don't think there's any question at all about the absorption thing; we do not absorb gluten through our skin. But if I'm putting it all over my skin I know a little is going to get into my mouth. richard
  15. I've heard of people reacting as much as 48 hours later, but I think that's pretty unsual. Your could be a gluten reaction but it also sounds like a possible stomach virus. It's not unusual with a virus to go through the throwing up stage and then have the diarrhea. richard
  16. If you're asking which ones are gluten-free, I know Banana Boat is. richard
  17. And the REALLY bad news is that most experts don't consider one month enough for an accurate diagnosis. More like 2-3 months. If you're certain celiac is the problem and you don't know of a reason that you need an official, official diagnosis, I'd just stay gluten-free. richard

    ARCHIVED Outback

I'm not sure I understand the paranoia about sour cream and butter not being mentioned. Although it does specifically mention that the salad dressings, it usually mentions things ONLY when they are not gluten-free. It doesn't specifically say anywhere that the cocktail or remoulade sauce is gluten-free, but they are. The sour cream and butter are gluten...
  19. Some root beer has wheat. I've seen it in ingredients before. richard
  20. Neither for me. Generally speaking, I just don't do bread any more. richard
  21. Loss of spontaneity. Every trip has to be planned out. richard
  22. I think you mean the Bonefish Grill. www.bonefishgrill.com They're affiliated with Outback. richard
  23. I'm sure that somewhere out there there's gum that has gluten, but I haven't found it yet. I use Dove soap. richard
  24. No matter what your official results you already have your answer -- you have celiac disease. richard
  25. If all of your son's problems have resolved I personally think you have your answer. However, when he gets to school you might need certified proof to get cooperation from the school officials. The bad news is your son would need to eat gluten every day for 8 to 12 weeks to make sure you get an accurate test. Even then the bloodwork could come out negative...
