  1. Yes, getting together with friends and eating (especially at their houses) is in my mind the toughest part. The suggestions given so far (eating ahead, and bringing your own food) are good. You will find out quickly who your real friends are. Most people don't understand completely but never the less try to work with you. Some people are suspicious of...
  2. I use La Choy Soy Sauce. You can get it in most grocery stores.
  3. Thanks Momma Goose, Kbtoyssni, and confused. I decided to go in to the theater office today in person and see if they would sell me the boxes. Well, it just so happened that the man who orders the popcorn was there and told me that he didn't believe there was butter in the ingredients. He opened up a box for me and pulled the product out for me to...
  4. My son is dairy free also. I don't remember exactly how long it took, but I think it was atleast a couple of months or more. His symptoms were mostly irritability. Hope this helps.
  5. Ds is going on 2 fieldtrips this month to a theater in town that provides a complimentary box of popcorn and drink to the kids. It isn't a huge movie theater company. It is a town theater. I called the theater and the person I spoke with said that it comes to them already packaged in butter (which he cannot have). Soooo, I can send him with a bag of popcorn...
  6. Hi, I have never been able to find tuna packed only in water. The cans I have looked at always say water on the front but then broth is listed in the ingredients also. What kind do you buy? Thanks!
  7. I have discovered that I can only eat tuna packed in olive oil. The others even those with soy oil have broth in them and I get sick later. Soy doesn't seem to be a problem for me, so it is something in the broth. I am gluten-free and casein free. Any ideas what is causing me to be affected by the broth? Wondering.
  8. Thanks. It sounds like it is probably safe but not 100%. I guess as long as my kids aren't reacting then I'll let them have them occasionally. Just out of curiosity, why do you avoid lactic acid starter culture. I'm just wondering because I haven't read much about it and I try to eat avoid unhealthy additives also.
  9. So should I assume that the lactic acid starter culture is milk free because the word milk is not on the package? Or is it like the other person I spoke with said? That there isn't a significant amount to cause a reaction? Still confused.
  10. Yes, that is what they say, however according to the man I spoke with, if it is a milk ingredient but not neccessarily called milk, then they don't have to label it as milk. So, in other words you are supposed to be educated about all of the terms for milk and look for them.
  11. I spoke with 2 different people at Kraft and now I have no idea what to think. I called to ask about Lactic Acid Starter culture in their Oscar Mayer Natural hotdogs. I wanted to know if this was a milk ingredient. The I spoke with gave me the usual, "At Kraft, if any of our products contain blah, blah, blah, then we clearly label it on the package...
  12. Hi Nancy, Sorry you are feeling blue right now. I'm in the same boat as far as thinking of things to make that my kids will like. The kids and I are all gluten-free and cf now and my 4 year old is really really picky. I rack my brain trying to figure out how to make sure they get proper nutrition and something that tastes good at the same time! It...
  13. I don't remember the exact number but I'm thinking 500 something. I remember thinking that it was in the normal range but not near the top. I'm going to look for the sublingual type to start taking.
  14. Thanks to all of you for your help! Many of you have mentioned B12. I had mine checked and I was told that it is in the normal range. Maybe I should be taking it anyway. I'll take a closer look at the nightshades family as rice guy mentioned. I feel so fortunate to me a member in this forum and receive such support. Thanks! Sarah
  15. Hi Marcia, Thanks, I hope it is healing. My reactions to gluten seem to vary, but I have had the insomnia like you and then the blues. It is awful, because I stay in bed all night thinking I will eventually fall asleep and then around 5:00 a.m. I finally do.
  16. Before going gluten free (and casein) I never had nerve pain like this. I'm suspecting that this is gluten related but not sure. I get random pain in my finger tips and toes, tops of my feet, shoulders, arms, and neck. It comes and goes throughout the day and I never know which body part will begin to ache at any moment. If it is from gluten then it is...
  17. Yes, Yes, Yes. In my family gluten affects our mood and causes anxiety in addition to some digestive problems. If you can't get answers through blood tests try removing it entirely from your kids diets and wait atleast 4 months before deciding if it is making a difference.
  18. Amanda, Just wanted to add that also sometimes you can have a wonderful on the ball doc and still not get a positive biopsy. My GI doc is excellent and after 2 neg biopsies told me to try the diet anyways. My point wasn't that docotors aren't worth working with. Not at all. My point was that even with the best doctors, celiac can be missed.
  19. Nisla, I was hoping you and others here would get in on this thread and help out. Thanks for posting. Sarah
  20. In a perfect world of medicine, you are right. However, when celiac disease begins and when it is finally diagnosed can be decades for some people. Those who have a positive biopsy from the beginning are fortunate, but they are the exception. Exposing children to a biopsy which is invasive, looking for damage that may or may not be there and still can...
  21. This really is a hard decision to grapple with. Here is what I did. I am quite certain that I have celiac disease. I have the 2 main genes for it with MANY symptoms. I have now had 2 small bowel biopsies which both came back negative. I went off gluten anyway and I am healing. It is a fact that some people have celiac disease but not enough damage to...
  22. Hi, Ds brought home some of these Bob's Sweet Stripes brand peppermint balls and wants to eat them. I searched online but can't find any ingredient info. I also need to make sure they are casein free. Anyone know?? Thanks!
  23. Kryptonite is good way to explain it. That is exactly how it seems. I know what you mean about how it seems worse now when you are glutened. I had thoughts similar to yours this last time, except that I was deteriorating rapidly right before going off gluten and I know that for me I would end up with nerve damage or worse if I continued. My blood sugar...
