ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In On My 2 Kids, Feeling Overwhelmed Right Now
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you! I am going to go to Wal-Mart today and look for the Philly Swirl popsicles. I haven't read Danna's book yet, but will be soon. I'm going to be buying cookbooks now too. Are you substituting with a gluten-free bread? Is your whole family gluten-free now? This is another decision. Basically my dh is out numbered. Love these... -
I have had dizziness that began a few months before going gluten free. I found out it was hypoglycemia. It improved upon going gluten free but didn't go away. Then I discovered that as long as I didn't have a large breakfast or any large meal for that matter, but instead snacked on high protein snacks, it went away. I still sometimes get it in the evening...

ARCHIVED 10 Year Old Daughter Needs Others Her Age To Talk To!
Sarah8793 replied to KimG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, I don't have children close in age and interests, but I bet someone here will. I think this is a great idea to help her not feel alone. Just wanted to say welcome and good luck. I just found out today that both of my children will need to be gluten and casein free, so I will be in the same boat as you. Sarah -

Thanks for your support. I have a good gluten free cake recipe. The only icecream I have tried is soy. So, do I just bring his own cake and icecream to the party? -
ARCHIVED Just Found Out I Have Be Glutening My Son
Sarah8793 replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry this happened to you. I know I feel guilty when I accidentally gluten myself, but when it is your kids it is even a worse feeling. The most important thing is that you are vigilant and when you suspected something you asked and took action. I'm finding more and more that I can't eat out, mainly because of cc. Don't be too hard on yourself, this... -

No, you aren't a downer by any means. I just got the results a few hours ago and I think I am still in some denial. -

The results from EnteroLab came today for ds(7) and dd (4). They each received one of my main celiac genes and a gluten sensitive gene from dh (didn't know he had until now). Both need to go off gluten AND Casein. Only ds has the autoimmune reaction going. Thankfully dd has a score of 9 on that and over 10 is considered an autoimmune reaction. I am... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Inhaling Wheat Flour And The Soy Family
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, I hadn't thought of it emptying into my stomach. I think this is good advice. I guess I need to take gluten free to the next level, and get it out of the house. Don't know if my husband will want to part with his bread though. Ursula, Wow! I never would have guessed baking but not consuming gluten could cause that much of a reaction... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Inhaling Wheat Flour And The Soy Family
Sarah8793 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Last night I noticed that I had a slightly sore throat. Today I feel like my lungs ache a little and I had drainage in back of throat when I woke up. I would normally chalk this up to a cold, however I have noticed the sore throat and drainage in the morning at other times within the last few months. I thought back to yesterday and remembered that I made... -

ARCHIVED Reading Dr. Green's Book And Feeling Angry
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I am almost finished now and feel that other than the biopsy part, it is an excellent book. In fact I thought about starting a new thread to state the positive, because I didn't mean to give the impression that the book was bad. The biopsy part is in the beginning and once I got past that it was good. Sarah -

ARCHIVED If You Had Hypoglycemia Did It Go Away After Being Gluten Free?
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is how I feel. I know I need to add more variety in my diet, but the double whammy of hypo plus celiac has left me also eating the same things everyday because I know they will get me through the day. To help with energy, I try to get adequate sleep, drink plenty of water, and eat enough protein and fats with my carbs. It is nice to know I'm not... -

Thank you, Thank you everyone for the tips! I decided to leave the skins on. About half fell off anyway so it is going to be 1/2 and 1/2, sure to please everyone eKatherine, thanks for the tip. I will do that next time I make it, as I had already finished cooking and draining them. Sarah -
ARCHIVED Please Help, Making Potato Salad For First Time, Question
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the quick replies! It just occured to me that maybe I'm supposed to remove the skins?? It doesn't say that in the recipe though. I personally like them, but I don't know about my friends that are coming over. Don't know what I should do. -

I boiled whole red potatoes like the recipe said until they were tender but still firm. It says to cut them into cubes. The red skins are falling off some of them as I cut them. What do I do? Should I wait until they are cooler? Is this supposed to happen? Do I discard the skins that are falling off and keep the ones on that are staying on??? As you... -

Last summer when I was becoming casein intolerant and didn't know it yet, I was in horrible stomach pain. I thought maybe I had an ulcer. My GI checked me for H. Pylori, negative. He did an upper GI series to check for ulcer. It was negative. He said all that he could see was that the lining of my stomach was really red and looked irritated but couldn... -

Yes, people react to the concept of gluten-free as a punishment. I'm beginning to see that it isn't so terrible. I do wish though that I didn't have to avoid BOTH gluten and dairy. One by itself would be great. Haven't figured out how to replace pizza. -

ARCHIVED Reading Dr. Green's Book And Feeling Angry
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, there definitely must be stages. And that is what frustrates me about the position of M.D.s on the biopsy. And there is research being done right now that indicates some people don't ever have digestive damage. I am almost half way through the book. I agree with Ursula that there is a lot of good information elsewhere in the book. So it is worth... -
ARCHIVED Reading Dr. Green's Book And Feeling Angry
Sarah8793 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just started reading Celiac Disease, A Hidden Epidemic, by Dr. Peter Green. I was expecting to get an enlightened approach to diagnosing celiac disease, but so far he writes that the biopsy is the "gold standard," and that noone should commit to a lifetime of eating gluten free without having a positive biopsy. He reccomends going on a gluten challenge... -
ARCHIVED Stomach Cramping
Sarah8793 replied to Ash82's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You mentioned that you are lactose intolerant. For me, I was lactose intolerant for years and then became casein (milk protein) intolerant before figuring out that gluten was a problem. I was still eating dairy in small amounts thinking I was only lactose intolerant. I was taking the lactase enzyme each time I ate any dairy but I would get awful stomach...
