  1. Nevadan and Par18, After reading your posts, a light went on. I started thinking about my friend and remembered that she is on proton pump inhibitors for acid reflux (she blames a hiatal hernia) and is lactose intolerant, and takes a host of other medications for a variety of problems. I see clearly now why she might have some envy that I am not...
  2. I hadn't thougt of this. But I could do this and that would save a lot of discussion. Thanks! Sarah Tiffany, You are absolutely right. I really need to square up with myself on this issue and then I'll probably feel better. Thanks, Sarah I can totally totally relate to this! This is exactly how I am seen. And if and...
  3. I have been gluten free for almost 2 months. My husband totally supports me and never acts strange about my dietary (milk and gluten) restrictions. BUT, my good friend (who is a dietician no less) acts uncomfortable when the topic comes up. While visiting with her recently at her home she said, "I should probably offer you a snack," (which is strange...
  4. I am awaiting my results from EnteroLab. I'm wondering it they just give you all of the information or do they explain what it means. Like, do they say you are gluten sensitive and should avoid gluten, or do they simply state what they found? Thanks! Sarah
  5. Thank you for the help with understanding this. It makes sense. After reading some posts by others I somehow got the idea they could occur separately in foods, which didn't make sense to me but then again you never know. I started out as lactose intolerant and I think have moved on to casein intolerant in addition to becoming hypoglycemic. Sarah
  6. I 've been lactose intolerant for years but suspect after reading here that I have developed a casein intolerance too. If dairy is in a product, then casein and lactose (in varying amounts) are present also. But can casein and lactose be separated out of milk and put in products individually? Forgive me if this is a duh question but the whole casein...
  7. I like and use Smart Balance's ORGANIC Whipped Buttery Spread. It is 100% vegan, Non-dairy, Non GMO, Gluten free, No Trans Fats, and etc. But I've only seen the gluten free and dairy free in the organic version. Sarah
  8. Wow, Thanks for all of the posts. I feel a little better now hearing that some people do have problems with some of Lay's chips. Because I just couldn't think of anything else it could have been. Sarah
  9. I read this also recenltly on their site, as I am planning on doing the tests. It left me thinking that I'll definitely come back with something positive as far as genes. Then I wondered why bother taking the gene test. But from what I can tell by reading, there are some dead-ringer genes and then there are more nonspecific genes. So I plan to take it...
  10. I was recently diagnosed with hypoglycemia, and I have also gone 1 month gluten free now. My brain fog has definitely improved, but I don't think I'm as sharp as I used to be. It is still early though. If I have any gluten, I get dizzy immediately. I have basically cut out all sugar including fruits from my diet. This may be helping with the brain fog...
  11. Vincent, I am hypo also, and we just drove 8 hours for vacation. I brought a LG. can of peanuts and a cannister of raisins and just mixed a handful from each (actually more peanuts than raisins) and ate that every 2 hours. Another thing that is good is seeds. If you buy them, beware of added MSG though. The ones I had on the road (sunflower) didn't...
  12. I ate a bunch of Lay's brand potato chips an hour ago and am starting to get symptomatic. They say they are gluten-free, but I know this isn't always a guaruntee that there isn't cross contaminiation. Anyone else have bad luck with Lay's brand chips? Sarah
  13. Are the symptoms of casein and lactose intolerance the same? For years I could take a lactose enzyme but now since I became more sensitive, they don't work. AND interestingly, when I became more sensitive, the symptoms changed. Now when I have had milk or milk product, the pain is in a different place and affects my upper digestive tract. I'm wondering...
  14. Forgive me if this is a silly question. What is the difference between lactose and casein? And can you have a casein intolerance and not a lactose intolerance or vice versa? confused
  15. On my quest to figure out if gluten is my problem, I always think about the fact that I am lactose intolerant and have been for about 6 years, right after my first child was born. I became even more sensitive when my second child was born, and can no longer have ANY. Not even with a lactose enzyme pill. So then I wonder why is this progressing? Can...
  16. Gillian, Clover, NicoleAJ, and TCA, Thank you for your responses. It is nice to feel I'm not alone with the hypoglycemia, and to hear what your experiences are. I appreciate it. I've been gluten free for almost 1 month and I do see hypo symptoms lessening but not completely gone yet. I'm really hoping my hypo will go away. I feel like I can deal...
  17. Hi there, I am not positive that I have celiac yet (3 weeks gluten free), but I do know that I am lactose intolerant. I have been for 5 years. Before getting diagnosed as lactose intolerant I would have the same kind of gas you are talking about. Concentrated, sulfer smelling and often silent in passing. Try keeping a food journal and watch what happens...
  18. B+ Sarah
  19. Thanks! It was the only thing I ate yesterday that I wasn't sure about and I seemed to be symptomatic all day. I think I'll just stay away from mcdonalds. There isn't much to eat there anyway. Sarah
  20. Thank you very much for your suggestions! Looks like Dove is the way to go. I already use Dove shampoo and conditioner and like it. I'm going to switch to their hairspray and deodorant also. Thanks Girl Ninja for the link to the gluten-free file! that sounds great. Sarah
  21. I mean without the bun and everything. Thanks, Sarah
  22. I'm new to getting rid of gluten. I've been hopefully gluten-free for 3 weeks now. However in addition to discovering that my hairspray has wheat and hydrolyzed wheat protein in it, now I see my deodorant has barley in it! Are there any generally safe soap/shampoo lines and cosmetic lines? Sarah
  23. Thanks Katie, I have often wondered about magnesium's role in my overall health picture. I need to eat more of the foods you listed anyway. Sarah
