ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestations
Sarah8793 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for posting this. I just read this article and found it very interesting. Other than lactose and casein intolerance (which caused digestive symptoms for me) gluten has mainly caused neurological symptoms in me. I have (when getting gluten) brain fog, fatigue, headaches, aching muscles and joints, insomnia, anxiety, depression, dizzyness. And... -
ARCHIVED New Attitude Problem For Me
Sarah8793 replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rinne, I could have wrote this myself This is EXACTLY what goes through my mind. It is a feeling of being torn definately. I also feel like I am between two places. The first being that I want to give advice and the second knowing that I can't because they won't change until they are ready. Sarah Very good point! I totally agree... -

ARCHIVED Have You Consulted A Dietician For Help?
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Let us know how your visit with the dietician goes. If it turns out to be really helpful, I will definitely try to meet with one. Sarah This is kind of what I have been suspecting. It would be great if I could find a dietician who specializes in food intolerances. Thanks, Sarah -
ARCHIVED Heinz Organic Ketchup Has Gluten In It-here I Go Again
Sarah8793 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just got off the phone with a representative from Heinz. Very nice man by the way. I was calling to ask him about the Apple Cider Vinegar. He said that yes it contained gluten as well as the organic ketchup. I hadn't planned on asking about the ketchup, I had assumed it was gluten free by looking at the ingredients. Luckily he mentioned this because... -

ARCHIVED Newman's Own Pineapple Salsa-is It Gluten Free?
Sarah8793 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought it and it looks like it is gluten free, but not sure about "Natural Flavors." Usually I call the company but strangely there is no phone number to call. Anyone know about this product? -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Find Gluten In This Products
Sarah8793 replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I just tried a lara bar a few days ago for the first time. My mother had one and gave me a taste (about 1/4 of the bar-so not much). Within 20 minutes I was feeling nauseous and like it was just sitting in my stomach. I can imagine what would have happened if I ate the whole bar. Now of course I am suspicous of them. Hope you get to the bottom... -
ARCHIVED Have You Consulted A Dietician For Help?
Sarah8793 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Now that I am gluten and casein free and have to watch sugar, I was thinking how nice it would be to have someone who crunches serving size and nutrient numbers together to make an eating plan for me. I'm doing okay right now, but not much variety. I have thought about seeking a dietician but wanted to see if it was worth my time or not. Have any of... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
Sarah8793 replied to Linda56's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Linda, I think the test you ordered was the best one to get if you don't want to spend much. It is the one that will tell you whether your body is reacting. The gene test is more for additional info. It doesn't tell you whether your body is reacting at this time. It is expensive, I just did several tests on myself. But I believe the insight it provides... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed Celiac Wondering About Recovery Time?
Sarah8793 replied to Aerin328's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I remember when I had only been gluten free for 2 weeks and I really really wanted to see some improvement. At that point I still felt pretty much the same. I have been gluten free now for just over 2 months, and for me it was right at the 2 month mark that something changed. It was subtle, but I began to get a little more energy. Just enough to get a... -
At times when I have felt drained, a little closer examination upon my eating habits usually reveals 1 of 2 problems. Not enough protein or not enough complex carbohydrates. I am hypoglycemic also so I have to eat for energy. So I have learned some things about this. Check how many grams of protein you are getting and compare it to the reccomended amount...

Anyone Have Dumping Syndrome Related To Celiac Disease?
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Cathy, I think that not a lot of people have heard of it. It is probably one of those things that if your doctor knows a lot about it then he would test for it. Since it can be controlled very well just by avoiding large meals, I proabably won't pursue it with a doctor either. It is interesting though. Thanks for helping me explore this subject.... -
Anyone Have Dumping Syndrome Related To Celiac Disease?
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Cathy, A few months ago, before I was diagnosed through EnteroLab, I was diagnosed with my GP with hypoglycemia. My chief symptom was feeling dizzy and lightheaded. I began keeping a food journal and noticed immediately that I had intense symptoms after eating bread. I took all gluten out of my diet and I have been getting better ever since. ... -
ARCHIVED My Sons Doc Visit Yesterday
Sarah8793 replied to chgomom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with you. I am getting ready to have my son tested and no matter what he will not be biopsied. When they are adults fine. I guess there might be some cases where it would be a good idea to biopsy on a child, but you have to weigh it. JMHO Sarah -
One more thing I just thought of reading this last post of yours. Sounds like your husband is not opening up because of all of the factors you talked about. Here is an idea to get him to open up. Go for long walks with him. I read this somewhere once. The idea is that men will talk more and listen more when they are simulataneously walking, moving etc...

ARCHIVED Torn About How To Test My Son, Lots Of Questions
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you Andrea. -
RachelleK, I was recently diagnosed through EnteroLab. But before, my husband I think has seen me as a hypochondriac. Now he takes me more seriously. The problem with celiac disease is it causes so many different aches and pains. I mean sometimes my neck hurts and sometimes it is my back, ETC! There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it as...

Try to keep your mind on other things. It is the waiting that is the most difficult. Good luck and let us know how it went. Hugs.

ARCHIVED Torn About How To Test My Son, Lots Of Questions
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks so much for sharing this. I can't tell you how much this and the other responses are helping me to sort this out. Your approach to letting him occasionally eat it while out and also letting him learn as he gets older makes sense. As you say, he is one step ahead from where he used to be. I think if I approached my son's gluten free lifestyle this... -
ARCHIVED Torn About How To Test My Son, Lots Of Questions
Sarah8793 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry, I should have explained that part. I'm not worried about insurance paying for any test the Ped. orders. I'm more worried about if I want to take out life insurance one day. I don't know how the label would affect my kids either. My husband is wondering about this aloud with me. Just trying to make sure I do this the best way. Did your sons...
