  1. Cheese and hard salamis don't require refrigeration. Find a buffet (and a large bag/backpack and some plastic bags)
  2. Thanks Loey, I was hoping for an update.
  3. Chicken reality is so much better...well....maybe not for the chickens..... I am afeared of what will happen when the Tom turkey reaches sexual maturity. The little silkie rooster could be in for a tough time.
  4. I have three of the plump little meat chickens left (for another month anyway) and two of them are roosters. Well, two roosters is too many in most chicken books and these guys decided to have it out. Picture two sumo wrestlers wearing chicken suits stomping around in circles. They managed one circle, puffed up their neck ruff, then plopped down, because...
  5. I have chicken stories... Two moms with chicks two weeks apart. I looked in the coop last night to see if mom and older chicks were already roosting and no longer using the nest. Discovered the silkie (mom with younger chicks) up on the roost and the other hen on the nest with all the kids. Older kids are so big that just their heads fit underneath...
  6. I'm doing both the Rotary Auction and The Ovation production right now. Weekend days spent in a large room full of dishes... evenings spent on a platform in a little closet that smells like teenage boys.
  7. If their policy states "no outside food", then you were wrong, not them.
  8. Diabetics who are homeless People with thyroid disease who are homeless People with cancer who are homeless People with.... It's the 'homeless' part that's bad, and having celiac disease, in my opinion, is a lesser issue when homeless than plenty of other things People with the flu People who need meds People missing limbs ...
  9. So the place didn't have potato chips? Peanuts? Whole fruit? Soda? Water? Orange juice? It's discrimination when you are denied something available to others, not when you're denied what you want.
  10. Only if you're required to be somewhere, or required to eat somewhere. If you have to go to a business meeting at a restaurant, your boss (not the restaurant) is required to provide you with safe food. If you choose to go to a restaurant, you're on your own. In the piece above, the kid did not have to eat there, did not even have to be there, and...
  11. It's not discrimination if the rules apply to everyone. If you were told you couldn't bring in your gluten-free food, but could bring in regular food, that would be discrimination. A restaurant is not required to serve you food, nor are they required to let you bring in your own food. What if you had cockroaches or other bugs mixed in with your snacks...
  12. If you hadn't had a history of seizures it's pretty likely that they would have been forever labeled 'brain fog' by everyone. It's a pretty weird event, after all -- you just 'disappear' for a few seconds.....
  13. FF, they may not be related, or it may be that the stress of being glutened sets off a seizure and any stress would do the same.
  14. Yes. Open Original Shared Link I knew a girl in high school who had these.
  15. Brilliant Em! Wouldn't that be cool if it worked!
  16. Butch is coming, Bo is still in question. Long hair, South America....perhaps not the most comfortable.... We'll see. Some subset of the poultry will become dinner and the rest I'll sell. That should probably be phrased as: will try to sell the poultry but some will become dinner. So far away, it's hard to be patient.
  17. Three years from now. Need more equity and time (and money) to update a few things on the boat. 'tis a carefully thought out plan in reality and I think I made my brother and sister jealous (always a bonus).
  18. For a while now I've been trying to steel myself to have the "big retirement plan" discussion with my parents. I've been trying to predict their concerns and have prepared answers and I expected to have the full acceptance take a while. The actual conversation went something like this: Me: *deep breath* "So I'm planning on selling my house and taking...
  19. Crows actually chase hawks away and for that reason I like having them in my trees. Saw them chase away a small hawk that I believe got one of my baby turkeys. Hawk hasn't been back. A few days ago I saw (heard, mostly) a crow way up in the sky dogging an eagle that was perusing the open buffet that is my yard full of chickens. I happily share my chicken...
  20. Premature greying and autoimmune disease is a connection that's pretty well known in the medical field. I saw a photo once of two identical twins; one had an AI and the other didn't. The difference in their appearance was amazing.
  21. What was that glitter debacle with braided yeti hair? Anyone remember that?
  22. Actually, if you could offend the yeti, that might be worth a position in the royal court.
