  1. Yea Laurie, My problem was originally the "raw in the middle" thing too. Then they were as dry as dirt. So, I'm just going to take everyone's suggestions and continue to experiment with time/temp...next time I think I'll also use a different pan. Good luck! -Julie
  2. Thanks for the suggestions and recipes everyone! Mike, Nonna, and Frosty Thank you SO MUCH for posting your recipes. Frosty, I'm glad you listed the "alternatives" section. I am always wondering what I can substitute (i.e. for the milk powder...which I don't keep around the house usually). Mamatide and Betsy, I'm so grateful for the...
  3. Angie, If you don't mind, could you post your recipe from BH's cookbook? Chrissy and Tinker, Thanks for the tip; I will try baking and freezing! I'm embarrassed to share my recipe; I kind of made it up myself. It doesn't look like traditional pizza crust at all, but it doesn't taste bad and holds together fairly well. When I get it...
  4. Well, Crud! I love my morning bowls of cereal...no coffee needed, just cereal w/rice milk and I'm a happy lady. Now, I'm down to cocoa pebbles and the Enviro. frosted flakes (at $5.00 a box and they taste nothing like the "real thing"). Thanks for the update! -Julie
  5. Katrina, I was about to create a post asking for a cheesecake recipe. Do you think I could make the cheesecake part with the same ingredients-minus the blueberries- and it would taste good? I already have the crust (my crappy Pamala's brownies from earlier in the week). I just need a yummy filling. My hubby isn't crazy about blueberries, but I...
  6. Although I have successfully wasted hundreds of dollars on my gluten-free cooking experiments, I have tried exactly two recipes that I can actually make. One of them is for a gluten-free pizza crust; I made it about a year ago. Since I don't have time to cook everyday, I thought about mixing a couple of crusts at one time and then pulling them out of the...
  7. I tried the Kinninnick donuts too. They were heavy and thick...not tasty to me. I'll be interested to see if anyone has a recipe!
  8. Nisla, Thanks for the tips about using the leftovers as a pie crust...I hadn't thought of that. The brownies aren't in the trash yet; they're on my kitchen counter...awaiting their destiny, which thanks to you, is no longer the trash. I'll DEFINETELY use them for a pie crust!
  9. If you do try that recipe, let me know. I'm afraid I can't afford to throw any more gluten-free cooking attempts in the trash this month...especially money on a dessert. (good grief, it sounded so simple...add an egg and oil...anybody in the mood for my chocolate-flavored cardboard?) Thanks for the replies and tips everyone. I will definetely remove...
  10. I was sooo excited when I went in my local grocery and found that they have started carrying some of the Pamala's product line. Well, I purchased the brownies (and cookies, which I haven't tried yet) and the they turned out gross. Uggghhh! How did I mess up such an easy product??? add egg, oil, and water. How could I possibly screw that up? Anyway...
  11. Mamaw and Guhlia, Those sound soooo yummy! I'll have to try them.
  12. I agree with NancyM. Finding an extremely knowledgable dr. is important in dx. any autoimmune disease (because the symptoms mimic those of other illnesses and are often not easily pinpointed by simple bloodwork). Can you be referred to a rheumatologist? If you have a PPO insurance plan, you may not even need to be referred. Good luck to you! -Julie
  13. I'm glad that I can still have... 1. a mushroom-swiss burger, french fries, and a diet coke with a hershey bar for dessert! (not that nutritious...but absolutely delicious!) 2. Fresh veggies! yummmm 3. I'm glad I can still eat most breakfast foods. It's my favorite meal of the day! -Julie
  14. Although I have never been diagnosed with clinical depression, I suffer recurring episodes of moodiness and sad feelings. Most days, by remaining gluten-free, I notice that I am not as moody, sad, or tired as I have been in the past. However, I still have my "depressed" days periodically. And particularly when I first started the gluten-free diet, the...
  15. Morning everyone! This weekend I was at Kroger (grocery store) and noticed that the store shelf box of Rice Dream had the barley/gluten warning (which I knew), but I went over to the refridgerated section and that Rice Dream (in the 1/2 gallon) doesn't...or at least not that I could find. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm just curious why there seems...
  16. Kat-Kat, You should really check out the links on this thread. Cara and others provided some excellent resources! Nope, you are not alone...and neither am I. It seems that many of us have seizures and/or neurological complications due to (or made worse by) gluten! Keep on researching. Take Care. -Julie
  17. This topic fascinates me... I have migraines and seizures (with an occipital lobe focus...which "controls" vision). My life has been spent coming in and out of the "looking glass" (aka Alice in Wonderland Syndrome). I actually wrote a poem about this experience. Carol, I'm glad your daughter is feeling better. Blessings. -Julie

  19. Hi, If you look about three threads down on this forum page "Research and Related Disorders", you will see a recent thread that I started "celiac and seizures" inside of it are several links to helpful sites and references (along with some very interesting and useful information). To go to any of the links, just click on them. They are great! And...
  20. Taz, They probably enjoyed that breakfast more than anything you would have cooked them! Autumn, I did something similar one time. I went to Whole Foods and bought a whole buggy full of wonderful gluten-free foods (and like you, spent over $100...it adds up so fast!) Anyway, got home and was half-way through a box of deli-type crackers...
  21. Wow! You all are so informative... Cara, thanks again for the links! VERY interesting and helpful. You are right, none of my doctors would ever dream of mentioning anything about diet/gluten-free/vitamin and seizure connection. I LOVE discussion forums! Nini, I've been on Dilantin, but it didn't do much for seizure control. It made my arm...
  22. Cara, Thank you so much for all of your feedback! I don't even want to mention my gluten/seizure hypothesis to my Neuro./Gastro./or Rheumy. I'm afraid they will all think I'm crazy...and trying to connect things that simply have no connection. However, I've already been encouraged to eat healthy and take a multivitamin by all of them...so my Celiac...
  23. First off, thanks to nini and raven for sharing your stories and history with me. Cara, Thanks for the link Evie, Hope you're feeling better! I am so excited! This is the first hope I've had in years. I actually found a lot of information on-line about seizures and/or epilepsy and Celiac. Most of it was very encouraging. I found several...
  24. The baby is crying so I don't have much time to respond right now...thank you so much for sharing with me. Got a lot I want to say. I'll be back on a little later (during naptime). -Julie
  25. That sounds so good! I'll have to try it. I was a vegetarian (never vegan though) and use all of my old recipes still...I'll just add this to my veggie-lover's menu! Thanks a lot. -Julie
