  1. I think you´re right. They are not testing for coeliac as such but for the presence of the gene to show which children are susceptible to it. If this is recorded in their medical file and symptoms present then diagnosis is much more simple and less invasive. No more biopsies that can show false negatives anyway - straight to the diet.
  2. You should use your left over curry to make stuffed courgettes - they´re delicious, filling and don´t make you feel bloated like potatoes which I have a real problem with.
  3. Don´t know how they do it , not even sure if I have full story - maybe they can test for the gene. I was diagnosed when I was under a year old 40 years ago so they must have gathered some more knowledge along the way in all those years.
  4. I was diagnosed as a baby so my mother tends to keep track of anything in the news about Coeliac and I´m sure she told me that they now take blood from the heel of a baby during the first couple of weeks of life to test for it( in Scotland). Maybe that´s what they do in Italy.
  5. I´ve just spoken to someone else about this on another thread. I think we tend to think everything we suffer is related to gluten and forget that there are lots of other little devils out there that can make us sick. Sorry I can´t answer your question as such but I tend to get colds in summer and they are much worse than the ones I get in wintertime. ...
  6. Have a great time at the concert!!!!!!!!!
  7. I get pain like that, my husband knows when I have it because when he wakes up I´ve either fallen asleep in a sort of foetal position with a hot water bottle between my legs and my stomach to ease the pain or he finds me in a bath that´s so hot my skin is red raw. These are the only things thatPARTIALLY sooth the pain when it gets that bad.
  8. Yeah, I know most of those songs but couldn´t put a name to them so I´m guessing you might be around the same age as my hubbie who was born in ´57 and is 9 years my senior. We have that sort of conversation all the time, not just because of the age gap but also because I´m a person who has a talent for remembering half of everything. This drives my ...
  9. Yeah, I was once sent home with an ill 10 month old baby from the hospital 5 nights in a row with a condescending " babies do vomit you know" My answer was " have you seen the Exorcist?" After 2 more days a young pre med couldn´t rule out meninjitis and sent me to the hospital with a letter and my son was in an isolation ward for 10 days. They ...
  10. I´m cringing as I write this but my curiosity is getting the better of me( picture me getting lower & lower in my chair and when you answer, picture me under it with my face screwed up saying " ohhh!!!!, I can´t believe I asked that but..........) Who´s James Taylor?
  11. Doctors are such idiots(SOME OF THEM). My father had ME about 15 years before anybody knew what it was and was sent to pshyciatrists for years. Once they had a label - everything that went wrong with him after that was ME - no invetsigations, nothing. Now my father is very sick, he has ME, psorisic arthritis, some bone problem, all diagnosed recently...
  12. Not sure if your response is directed at me or Nantzie, if me - I am getting better- honestly even my longsuffering boys have said so.
  13. As gfp already said, a negative biopsy doesn´t tell you much. I have Celiac and had a negative biopsy at around the age of 25ish. For the sake of other regulars on the board I won´t go into details I´ve already stated but my signiture gives a brief explanation.
  14. I guess from your time difference you
  15. I don´t feel like it´s all in my head but I sometimes feel that I´m not sure if I´ve been glutened or if I have a virus or something and I´m just blaming the symptoms on Coeliac. Doesn´t matter I suppose, if I´m sick, I´m sick wether gluten or some other culprit is to blame.
  16. I have good days and bad days but the first thing to go was the constant need to hold in gas in public - sorry to be gross but I´m very glad that I don´t have to laeve the room all the time to fart anymore - can´t believe I wrote that I´m not quite into discussing the gross aspects of this disease yet. Actually, my friend is getting married after a w...

    ARCHIVED Dh?

I got scabies years ago when I did a nursery placement in teacher training college. If I remember correctly the advice I was given then was that my own children could contract this from any toys etc that I had touched. I was up all night cleaning everthing as you can imagine. The rash looked more like plough tracks in the skin however - not really spotty...
  18. Appologies if this is duplicated, lost my post !!!! I was diagnosed in 1966 but still a newbie as my signiture explains.
  19. The section that explains about celiac disease is very clear and is ideal for newbies. Also I would never have thought to check if a restaurant heats the steamed veggies in pasta water - now they´re gonna think I´m even nuttier. I live in a small Mallorquin village and I´m sure they already think of me as the extranjerna loca - crazy foreigner. Thanks fo...
  20. I was also diagnosed as a baby at Oakbank hospital in Glasgow or was that where I went to recuperate - not sure but I´m a silly cow who put herself through years of hell between the ages of 18 and 40 by rejecting the diet. Been gluten-free now for almost 2 months and some days I feel almost human again.
  21. I have not had a problem with my weight since going to Weightwatchers. I followed the points system and lost 8 kilos(put some back on cos my bum disappeared now weigh 65kilos) 2 years ago and have kept it off. I know that doesn´t sound like a lot to lose when some people have more, some of the women there told me I shouldn´t be there. Point is I´m 5´7...
  22. Hi, I´ve just found this site that offers free downloadable cards that briefly explain about Coeliac in 37 languages to use in restaurants. Lots of you probably know about these but I´ve just found them and thought it wouldn´t do any harm to post the address just in case. www.celiactravel.com/restaurant-cards.html
  23. Hi, I´ve been gluten-free for a week now and I feel a bit better but I´m gutted that I have to give up beer (there is not likely to be any gluten free beer on Mallorca). Sooooooo, what can I have instead - you can only get cider in the tourist areas and we live in a little village in the middle of the island so that´s out too and I´m not too keen on ...
  24. Hi everyone, My 19 year old son has suffered from exzema since about the age of 10 and it has always been very difficult to treat. We have never mentioned the celiac presence in the family(those who have read my other posts will know I´ve been in denial about this for a while - so much so that it never entered my mind to mention it). Since joining ...
