Don't Forget The Enzymes: Because

I guess many know, but I better be up front to say that I am having allergies most likely from long-term celiac symptoms not diagnosed. At any rate I have healed my villi and had figured that I could stop taking my enzymes. I noticed the following symptoms:

Celiac.com Sponsor (A13):

More easily irritated.

Overwhelmed

Increasing Fatigue ,

Weight loss 10 lbs in a few months. (This certainly could be something else)

Stool containing food fragments and capsule pieces. (At least the capsules were empty)

Increased Anxiety

Today, I saw my children having their enzymes and started pondering over my recent struggle. I recalled I had begun to sink a few months back, and realized the two could be related. I took my enzymes. Later in the morning the fatigue suddenly cleared and I had a little energy. While using the toilet, I was surprised to note bright yellow urine! That is the color it turns when I take vitamin B, like when I am getting nutrients. However, it has been pretty much clear recently I wrestled or I wouldn't have been startled by the change. The rest of the day became a normal day with enough energy to keep going through it.

As days go by, I will stop by and let you know if I change my view on this, but for now, I won't forget to take my enzymes, no matter who tells me I don't need them!

That's great Dee! Always nice when you figure out something that works! What kind of enzymes do you take?

I am interested in what enzymes as well? Is this a common thing celiacs need to do? I thought urine was supposed to be pale yellow (color of pale lemonade I always read....).

I use Genuine N Zimes Dr. Howell's Original Formula Extra-Strength. I get these through Azure Standard. I like this particular brand since it is effective, is powder with no capsule. I checked and it had no corn which I needed. It contains 3 enzymes and cellulose.

It is commonly recommended especially for newly diagnosed celiac sufferers. I had a chiropractor, and MD, and a Functional Medicine Nurse all recommend them for me. My nurse explained that the villi in the small intestine gets damaged. One of the jobs the villi should fulfill is to tell the pancreas to fire. They can't do this well if they are damaged. The enzymes help to break down the food as one heals. The good news is that the villi damage is reversible.

I know my urine turns bright yellow when I take vitamin B. One doctor told me that is because I was processing the B. Other than that I believe that urine color can vary quite a bit and still be considered normal. I believe this from past reading and work as a nursing assistant years ago.

I may try those. Currently I take Digestive Advantage, but I can't tell if they make a difference or not.

Thanks for reminder - I have been slacking off in taking my enzymes lately, and my probiotics too. Sometimes I can't tell how well supplements are working or if it is a waste of effort and money, so I stop on purpose to test myself.

Then I slack off and feel worse and I do not know why it takes me so long to get back on track. Strangely I think it's old mlm feeling that I don't want to be dependent on supplements, when clearly they are helping significantly.

Yeah, I recall when I started I had less bloating, however, I still had some, but very little evidence that many outward symptoms were changing.. Upon nutrient status tests, my levels had gone up. Then I discovered that my gut had healed and that my enzyme level was good even if I didn't take it for four days. It seemed to make no difference when I decided to go without it. Now, I discovered that extreme allergies is part of my problem. The allergy doctor told me that one needs more enzymes when they have allergies. Feeling worse seems to come out of nowhere, BUT sometimes a solution can be found. For me I am back on the enzymes and when I leave the house I need to wear a mask because of my allergies!
