    Celiac.com 07/19/2019 - Think you have the next big gluten-free idea? Coeliac UK in collaboration with the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK is offering up to £180,000 for better gluten-free products, celiac disease diagnostics, or improvements to celiac management. 

    UK businesses and researchers looking to improve gluten-free food products are being encouraged to apply for funding designed to support innovation within the gluten-free food industry leading to better quality of life for people with celiac disease.

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
    Funding will go to applicants who devise improvements to gluten-free food, celiac disease diagnostics, or long-term celiac disease management. Researchers and businesses with projects budgeted from £50,000 to £250,000 can jointly apply for awards up to the maximum £180,000 available.

    “We want to change the course of coeliac disease treatment through improved diagnostics, technology and food innovations that truly bridge the gap between people, health professionals and products,” said Hilary Croft, CEO of Coeliac UK.

    “Research has the power to do this and, by combining forces with Innovate UK and industry, our charity demonstrates its unwavering commitment to the UK’s growing gluten free community,” adds Croft.

    Applications must be received by 16 September.

    New UK Fund Promotes Celiac Research and Gluten-Free Food Improvement
    Celiac.com 07/10/2018 - As part of its 50th Anniversary activities, Celiac UK has launched a research fund and accompanying fundraising appeal to support new research and development. The fund has already received an injection of £500k from Innovate UK, in addition to £250k from the charity. 
    Together, Coeliac UK and Innovate UK have opened applications for grants from the £750,000. Researchers and businesses can apply for a grants ranging from £50k to £250k for healthcare diagnostics, digital self-care tools and better gluten free food production. 
    Food businesses can receive grants by developing more nutritious and affordable gluten free food, by using new ingredients, improving nutritional value, flavor and/or texture, and creating better methods of preservation.

    Can Plant Proteins Make Better Gluten-Free Bread?
    Celiac.com 04/02/2019 - Anyone familiar with gluten-free bread knows the downsides. Dry structure, questionable texture, and sometimes inferior taste. Can plant proteins help to change that? Two groups in the UK, Innovate UK and Coeliac UK, are joining forces to develop gluten replacements from UK-grown crops. 
    The Nandi Proteins-led consortium includes Genius Foods, ingredients business AB Mauri, agronomy firm Agrii, Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. The project will focus on three ingredients currently underused by the food industry: fava beans, rapeseed by-products, and naked oats.
