Celiac.com 08/02/2024 - For those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, finding a delicious and trustworthy gluten-free ice cream can often feel like a daunting task. While many ice creams are naturally gluten-free, issues arise with flavors that include mix-ins like cookies or cookie dough, which can introduce gluten into the product. It’s essential to be vigilant about these added ingredients to ensure a safe and enjoyable treat. As always, read labels and check the ingredient list to ensure there are no potential sources of gluten.

This summer, we're excited to present an updated list, featuring over a hundred top gluten-free ice cream brands and flavors that are widely available. From classic favorites to innovative new flavors, there's something for everyone to enjoy. And if you have a beloved gluten-free ice cream flavor that isn't on our list, we invite you to share it in the comments below—we'll be happy to include it in our next update!

Wonderful list but for many of us celiacs that are also dairy free, would love to see list of dfgf.  I realize it will be a short list, unfortunately.

Are there any sherbets? I almost bought a brand of sherbet, not listed here, that specified "gluten free."  But, the allergy info stated it was make in a facility that made other products with wheat

The ice creams in this list may have no gluten ingredients, but many are produced on shared equipment and or in a shared facility (and could have cross contamination). Some ice creams have the allergen statement stating this, and some are tested to 20 or 10 ppm.  I've been sticking with products that clearly state both certified gluten-free and have an allergen statement.  If they are produced on shared equipment etc., I will call the company to get more info on their cleaning and testing protocols.  A tip from an article on Verywellfit.com, "More popular flavors, like vanilla and chocolate, are produced in greater volume and may be subject to less potential cross-contamination risk."

Ben & Jerry's Ice Creams are not gluten free for Celiac - they are cross-contaminated. However, as per their website, they have a Lemon Sorbet that is gluten-free.

Me?  Healed celiac with repeat small intestinal biopsies to prove it.  Why not use a brand that is willing to label their products gluten free and is interested in keeping those who have celiac disease safe?  I purchase Breyers which is clearly labeled gluten-free.  Read the label as they have a few other flavors that are not gluten free but are made in a separate facility.

If there’s a TraderJoe’s near your, their Soy Vanilla and Soy Chocolate Cherry Chip is dairy free gluten free.

I live in the Bay Area and I find that Sunnyside Farms has several flavors that are labeled gluten free. I had bought their sherbets in the past, only to find they contained modified food starch, which was problematic at the time.
They have recently come out with a Meyer Lemon sherbet, which is delicious.

Practically nobody doesn't love ice cream, and home made ice cream garners even more love, still. However, making ice cream from scratch can be a time-consuming, labor-intensive exercise.
One solution to that problem lies in this simple recipe and method for making about four cups ( 8 servings) of delicious vanilla ice cream at home in a bag. Kids will love making and eating their own refreshing ice cream.
For each person making ice-cream, you will need two pint-size resealable plastic freezer bags, one gallon-size resealable plastic freezer bag, and gloves or a towel to keep your fingers from freezing.
If you have more than one kid, you can divide the existing recipe between them, so they can both make ice cream. For more ice cream, scale the batch accordingly. Add fruit or other...

Joy Cone Gluten-free Sugar Ice Cream Cones
Finding a good gluten free ice cream cone turned out to be a real obstacle for me. Either they held up well, but tasted like cardboard, or they had a good flavor but were extremely brittle.  I almost gave up on my search for a great gluten-free cone, but then I tried Joy's Gluten-free Sugar Ice Cream Cones.  Joy Cones have such a nice crisp texture and are strong enough to hold up to my eight-year-old's scooping skills. Not to mention that they taste amazing!  I even catch my non-celiac kids dipping into my stash.
