Blood Test Negative

MDG

Recommended Posts

MDG Newbie

Hi there, I just got my blood test results back and it looks like they only tested me on one of the suggested 4 tests that they could do. This is what I got:

t Transglutaminase Ab Iga: 2    Range 0-20

They had done a few others like B12 which was 298 (Range >180) and Ferritin 40 (Range 20-200).

The doctor did conclude that he has never gotten a postive result from this test and said to me "If it walks like a duck, its a duck". I am scheduled for a colonoscopy on another issue and was wondering if I should push for a endoscopy too to rule either way on the celiac diagnosis??

Thanks in advance for your insights!!

The tTG is the doctors' favorite screening test in the celiac panel and many rely on it exclusively, although it is not entirely specific for celiac even if positive, and there has to be quite a bit of damage for it to be positive (maybe why he's never gotten a positive  ) :D  The better test is the newer DGP which is more sensitive to early celiac, and also more specific to celiac.  AND, he needs to do a total serum IgA to validate either test.

Yes, since you have to do all the prep for the colonoscopy, nothing more is needed for the endoscopy except putting the scope down.  If you have sufficient symptoms to be tested for celiac, you must surely have enough to be able to justify doing the endo with biopsies.  Make sure he takes at least six samples.  Doctors often like to do these as separate procedures because they make more money, but it doesn't make sense for the patient.

Welcome to the board, and best wishes for getting a definitive result.

Neroli said it all so I'll just wish you good luck with the doctors and any further testing you have done... It can be a real hassle so hang in there.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
