Hi I don't post much but I'm wondering if anyone here has ever developed a rash in there arms and torso that was itchy and turns to eczema after from eating gluten? My dr seems to think it was lichen planus but I'm not convinced I had a biopsy before and it came back eczema due to allergy so I was sent to a dermatologist she thinks it's lichen planus but nothing is helping except eliminating gluten just waiting for the second biopsy to come back to confirm yes or no for the lichen planus any help or hind sight would be lovely

Could be anything, but I have found that when it comes to rashes, most respond to a gluten-free diet. Eczema and psoriasis both do. I have psoriasis and within days of going gluten-free it started getting better. And now if I get glutened (or corned or soyed, or too many salicylates - lucky me! I react to all of these!) the psoriasis comes back.

I have a rash! Bad one...everywhere it shows up, it parallels. If its on one arm, its on the other...one shoulder its on the other etc. It shows up on my face, arms, shoulders, my whole torso-back and front, my thighs, my knees...lol, I think the only place I don't really get it is my calves and feet. It looks like these little bumps that have fluid in them. If I start scratching the whole area gets inflamed, red, and my skin looks bumpy. I hate the feeling, it feels like I have a million mosquitos biting me!

When I went gluten free, it took a while to heal and go away, but it eventually did. And if I just had ONE bite of gluten, within an hour I was scratching and it was back. Now that I've been on gluten for a couple months, well it's here and doesn't really go away. It flares up every time I eat really-and usually about an hour after. Sucks! I never did see a dermatologist, because I canceled as I was no longer on gluten(no rash) so I don't know for sure if it's DH or just eczema, but I do know that gluten causes it.

That's good you are working with a dermatologist though. Hopefully she'll be able to help you figure out what it is. :)

FreeMe, because yours is symetrical (on both arms, on both knees, etc.) it certainly sounds like DH. Have you been to the DH forum here? There are a bunch of great people who can help you. For instance, did you know the DH antibodies can stay in your system for up to two years? That means even if you haven't been glutened you can still break out at any time. Also, iodine can often cause a breakout. Check out all of the great info from the folks over at DH and you will probably learn of ways to get relief. :)

What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein bar to fill and play it safe.

Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
