Not trying to be contentious, HONESTLY I'm not, but didn't we just have a discussion the other day about people thinking allergies are worse than celiac? And didn't most posters say either that celiac was worse because the suffering lasted longer, or think it was insulting for someone to try to "one up" us?

 

So why is it OK for someone with allergic people in the household to post a sign, but not someone with a one-year-old whom the OP said WOULD pop anything in her mouth, to post a sign?

I think everyone is different, and if someone wants to post a sign, they should do it.

 

Honestly, I think this is picking a bone and not applicable to what I have said, Barty, but I am willing to clarify what I have said one last time.

 

I was not talking at all about "what's worse" or about the sign. I was talking about the reasons why Stephanie may have people do all the things they do. I think she is right to be very cautious.

 

First of all, I wrote a possible sign for her to post didn't I? (and I thought it was pretty good, if I say so myself) 

I did not say anything about not posting a sign. OK? 

 

I have said three times that I understand why she wants to do it.

I agree with whatever anyone wants to do.

 

Second, I do not have people wash their hands when they come into my home. Not even little kids.

I do not worry that they are going to gluten me. And they never have.  But that's me.

 

gee whiz, I'm on the mom's side here.

Hang a sign, wash hands, wash everything if you feel the need.

 

Sorry, but this is not an argument over "what's worse" this is a discussion about practicality.

Please, let's not bring it up and go down that road. It hurts people's feelings.

 

Once again, I do not know why I keep bothering to answer. I truly must be a glutton for punishment.

I guess I just see things differently because I HAVE been glutened by dirty, crumby hands. And I know it must be so much harder when you are dealing with a celiac one-year-old with one-year-old friends. But you know what? I bet AfricanQueen has already decided how to handle this, and all this back and forth is moot anyway.

 

So, in the interest of keeping the peace, could you send me some seafood from Florida?    I'll send you some snow from South Dakota in return.

By the time the seafood gets there and the snow gets here, neither of us will be totally thrilled with the package we open. (drippy and icky)

but, in all fairness, full disclosure for the OP....you have children who have serious life-threatening allergies, too.

No shoes here, either.  Before I even popped out kids I was disgusted by what's on the the bottom of them in my house.  BLECH!

 

I think my new sign is going to say:

"Welcome to our gluten free house!

Please keep your LPBs in the car and use the decontamination shower on the side of the house.

Only naked people with wine welcome to come in!"

i love this idea about a sign my house is recently going gluten free, but some of my family think im going over borde with it, i just dont want to chance it. she only 15 months and everything goes in her mouth, i cant watch her like a hawk 24/7 every day to make sure it doesnt go to her mouth. weve even had to stop going to family things for now till they undrestand im not being mean she cant have it it hurts her. 

 

maybe just have it say please no food, in our gluten free home to keep it safe thanks we do enjoy your company
