Where Do I Start? Allergist Or Gastroenterologist?

I initially thought it was gluten intolerance, but now if I am exposed I am developing hives as well as bloating and diarrhea. My ppc isn't giving any referrals. So which direction do I head first?? The hives are somewhat alarming!:(

Will your primary doctor do a Celiac blood test?  You could go to a dermatologist and see if they will biopsy next to an active lesion.  If they are rally hives, then it sounds like you might be allergic to something.

There is a skin rash associated with gluten called dermatitis herpetiformis . . . google it and see if the pictures look familiar.

 

Our primary care doctor did the initial screening.  When two in the family had positive blood tests, she referred us to a GI.  From there we got diagnosed.

 

An allergist cannot diagnose Celiac.  

 

You may have an allergy (with or without celiac) so you may need to also go to an allergist.

In my quest to find out what was wrong with me  I saw both a GI doc and an allergist.

 

 

 With hives I would consider an allergist the first step.You could  to be allergic to wheat/gluten.

 

 

 

An allergy to wheat / gluten ( as any allergy )can be life threatening .

      New issue

      I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep.This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I get the shakes...

      I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

      Do Gluten Enzymes actually work?

      If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.
