I already know for sure that I have celiac disease as my biospy came back with severe villi damage. Also my AgI and AgA were very high. Not to mention all the symptoms. I see my hematologist in a few weeks and was wondering if I should have the DNA testing or some others that people keep talking about. Is it important to have as many positive tests or is the biopsy and antigladins enough?

All of you are so knowledgable and so kind. Thank you for any advice!

If you want to get the gene testing you can but in my opinion that is not needed. Your blood work and biopsies came back positive which means you have celiac.

Many people in the general population have the genes but only some develop celiac so it really would not tell you much in those terms.

I second Katie's advice - no more testing is needed, just the gluten-free diet!

Thank you! I trust your opinions! I have been gluten-free for almost three weeks now. I knew I had it before I had the biopsy. Too bad no doctor ever mentioned celiac disease to me in all these years. I would have researched it and knew the cause for all my problems!

I hate to say this but many doctors, including specialists know less about this diseased than some of us freshies here do. Not only that but some of them hate people who do reseach like I do and some like to believe that there is no such thing. I had a doctor like that who said he didn't believe in Hypoglycemia.

      Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

      The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
