Bread Maker And Deep Fryer Recommendations?

Hello,

My 11 year-old was diagnosed with Celiac almost a year ago, and we are getting tired of eating over priced and frozen gluten-free breads.

I want to make our own bread.   (I am a pretty good cook, but not a baker at all.   Never baked any bread before.)

Can anyone recommend a good home bread maker, especially if you had success baking gluten-free bread with it?

I am also looking for home deep fryer recommendations.   My daughter has cravings for her old favorites, like fries, chicken nuggets, and corndogs etc.   Who can blame her...

Thanks!!

I can't help you with the deep fryer question b/c I just use a pan to fry in. As to the bread making machine I have a different suggestion. You don't need a bread making machine. Get a nice stand mixer & some quality 9 x 4 x 4" loaf pans like the ones King Arthur Flour sells and get this gluten-free cookbook: "The How Can It Be Gluten Free Cookbook" by America's Test Kitchen. The recipes are amazing! Bread looks, feels, smells & tastes like gluten bread and you don't even have to toast it to make it edible. You can get the cookbook for under $16 at WalMart & on Amazon -- most likely other places too.

Thank you!!   gluten-free bread recipes would have been my next forum topic question.   The reviews for this book on Amazon were VERY good.  We are going to buy this book.  I am excited already.

I am hoping to make our own gluten-free bread on a weekly basis.   I just thought a bread maker would make things easier.   I am under the impression, that with a bread maker, I would just threw bunch of ingredients together, push a few buttons, and fresh bread comes out.   Right?

I can't say as I have never used a bread maker machine but I think it's a little different for gluten-free breads in bread machines.

Before celiac, I used to make all my bread I a bread machine.. It was wonderful! As you describe, you just had to put all the ingredients together and press the button and 2 hours later, there was the bread!!! With gluten free bread, you need to buy one that specifically makes gluten free - if not, the gluten-free four will break it- if you do buy one just follow the instructions to the letter and put the ingredients in the right order and hopefully your bread will.appear!

Cheers

It could well be a new intolerance developing.  Does your diet incorporate pure oats i.e. those safe for coeliac consumption?  I find I can only tolerate a certain amount, same goes for dairy in fact, then I start to get gastric symptoms.   Or have you started consuming a new type of gluten-free bread, or more gluten-free bread than normal, that might contain oats?  I remember reading a post on this forum from a woman who had started to eat a lot of loaves made with oat flour and her coeliac symptoms kicked off again.  I am sure you know this, but some coeliacs cannot tolerate pure oats.

I eat a lot of dairy but its intermittent is this burning so I would assume it would happen all the time. Plus I have been tested for lactose intolerance  etc and I am fine and the other symptoms of that I don't get. As a aside  my dad died last month after a long illness so I wonder if the stress of that might be a influence as a bodily reaction to stress.

You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?
