Glutened By Cc - So Annoying!

I've been gluten-free for a few years so I know to watch out for cross-contamination, but I recently got glutened by fresh local mozzarella! It's in a shop with bread so there must have been some flour somewhere.

 

Does anyone else find that this is the most annoying part of going gluten-free? It's like getting cheated out of lots of foods you should be able to have.

I guess this could happen but can you be positive? Maybe you picked up a bug of some sort....My hubby got the full blown flu but I only got 10- 12 hours of nausea, fatigue..I'm not doubting you but once a celiac it is easy to blame every ill we get on our celiac ...

Hope you feel better soon....also could dairy be becoming an issue?

It is a good point that sometimes we can blame things on gluten even if they're not, it can be impossible to tell many times.  Also, did you eat a lot of the mozzarella?  I would eat a ton of fresh, delicious mozzarella, so also could be symptoms from just eating too much of it.  A good way to test that would be to eat an equivalent amount of a safe, packaged brand.  LOL  :lol:

It is easy to blame an upset tummy on gluten especially when we try so hard to guard against it. I still can't do much dairy or it causes gluten type reaction. A little here and there is about it....and darn but I love cheese!

      They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

      In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

      This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

      I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
