Do I Fit The Celiac Profile?

I am a 23 year old female:

By Blood-

Vitamin D almost undetectable

Deficient in B12, B3 & Pantothenate

Ferritin 26, Red Blood Cells & Hematocrit High

Hypothyroidism

FSH & LH seem to stay the same, never going up or down

IGF-1 Normal

IGFBP3 Normal

By 24 hour Urine-

Low Estrogen

Low Progesterone

Low HGH (Human Growth Hormone)

High DHEA

I also did IgE & IgG4 for Gluten & Gliadin, but did it fasting (I have read you are supposed to eat Gluten to get an accurate result) as my other blood work required fasting. I tested right at the Moderate line for Gluten & Just over for Gliadin. It was done through Meridian Valley if anyone is familiar.

I also have Aquagenic Urticaria. I break out in hives with contact with water. I also break out in hives with friction/stimulation/pressure such as massage.

Might I be Celiac?

12 hours of not eating won't effect the Celiac blood tests. What they mean is you can't be on a gluten free diet. You need to be eating a regular gluten containing diet for the weeks, maybe months, before the test.

RMJ Mentor

Those are not the standard tests for celiac, those are allergy-related tests. You should have the IgA and IgG TTG and DGP tests for celiac.

Besides the allergy test, what about my other labs? Do these labs resemble a Celiac?

cyclinglady Grand Master

The tests that RMJ mentioned are for antibodies -- not allergy testing. There are over 300 symptoms for celiac disease. You could have it. Your labs? Who knows. Lots of people are low in Vitamin D (depends on where you live) and many have low ferritin (e.gg. Heavy periods). Testing for antibodies and then obtaining intestinal biopsies can confirm celiac disease.

The University of Chicago's celiac website is a great place to research symptoms and testing requirements.

Hope this helps.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
