Hi everyone- I was just diagnosed with celiac about a month ago and quit gluten right away.. I've been feeling better in a lot of ways (less GI symptoms, headaches, insomnia), but I've been EXHAUSTED. I've heard that starting the diet could do that, but I was wondering about others experience with it, and would love some support!!! Any feedback would be very appreciated :)

It should start getting better soon. Mine lasted about three weeks. For some folks it'll go for five or six. In the meantime, go to the Newbie 101 thread pinned to the top of the coping section here for a wealth of information about the diet.

And welcome to the board! :) Feel free to ask a lot of questions because we're here to help.

I was suffering from extreme fatigue as a product of celiac and then it got even worse after going gluten free. Mine lasted about 2 months. There is such a thing as gluten withdrawal & fatigue is one of the most common symptoms.

I've had extreme fatigue for months and just went gluten free 15 days ago. Sadly I'm no better, even a little worse. I also have low vitamin D which causes fatigue as well so double whammy for me! Have you had all your vitamin levels checked?

I had my vitamin D level checked and it was low.  I was put on fifty thousand units once a week for 8 weeks.  I now am supposed to be taking a daily supplement, which I constantly seem to forget.

Depending on where you live , it is very common.  Having Celiac just seems to compound problems with absorbing nutrients.

Thanks everyone! I'm getting the vitamin panel done tomorrow, so hopefully I can start supplementing them if I'm deficient, but it's just so hard to deal with the fatigue! I've had to adjust my work schedule so that I don't fall asleep while I'm seeing patients... Thankfully I have a flexible schedule and can do this, but it makes me feel so pathetic!! :o:o

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
