San Francisco Restaurants

Hello all! My family is vacationing in the Union Square area of San Francisco and I am looking for restaurant recommendations. I'm extremely sensitive, and usually don't eat out, but it would be so nice if there was a safe place. My kids really want to eat in Chinatown too, if anyone knows a good place. Thanks!

E&O Restaurant and Bar on the edge of Chinatown and Union Square is a great Asian place with lots of gluten-free options. My husband and I have eaten there multiple times, and have always been pleased with our meals. The staff is fantastic!

There are many other places in the area that can accommodate gluten-free diners, but i think E&O really stands out.

Asian  Box is completely gluten free, although that information is not very prominent on their website.  I haven't been to the SF location but enjoyed the Mountain View location.  It looks like the SF location may be within the Macy's department store.

Mariposa Bakery in the Ferry Bldg. right on the bay.  Mariposa has fantastic sandwiches and salads,  either hot or cold, on your choice of breads or rolls.  Try the chocolate cupcakes!

I had lunch at Nopalito on 9th by Golden Gate park yesterday and they were very helpful and knowledgeable. I had a yummy chicken soup with avocado, corn tortillas, cauliflower, and chipotle pepper. There were also a few other items on the menu that were gluten free. They were upfront about the items I should not have- including letting me know the chips were cooked in the same fryer as flour items. I really appreciate when they know and tell you that sort of thing.
It's the first time I've eaten out since I was diagnosed 6 months ago and didn't feel bad the next day. I will definitely go back. That soup was really good :) Open Original Shared Link

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
