Mesquite Flour?

Anyone out here from the Southwest who has experimented with mesquite flour? I have recipies in a Native American cookbook using mesquite meal, but haven't tried them yet. I do have access to the beans. The meal is supposed to be sweet and nutritious.

I have it and use it. It's great. Makes cinnamon chebe taste even better. Great with Chicken and apples..baked in apple juice with cinnamon and honey.

Do you grow and grind it yourself, or does someone actually sell it?

I have nearly a fifty gallon drum full of pods. I'm thinking of planting them around the parimeter of the ranch as a windbreak. If we can use them as a food, that would be great. I already know the goats like them.

Pricey, but lasts forever because you only need a tblsp for most recipes. They say you can use 2tblsps....but that is too much. It's great. You should get some.

I read you can actually chew on them raw. Research it on line. There's lots of info on them.

O.K. This may sound silly, but I just saw it on a show called Reading Rainbow, eating the pods raw and grinding it. The taste is supposed to vary greatly from raw to ground. If you would care to share the wealth of some of those pods, contact me. I'm very curious to taste them, and I would love to experiment with cooking and baking.

Yes, we have been aware that this can be an issue with mushrooms but as long as they are rinsed thoroughly it should not be a problem since the mushrooms don't actually incorporate the gluten into their cellular structure. For the same reason, one needs to be careful when buying aged cheeses and products containing yeast because of the fact that they are sometimes cultured on gluten-containing substrate.

      The one kind of food I had been buying and eating without any worry for hidden gluten were unprocessed veggies. Well, yesterday I discovered yet another pitfall: cultivated mushrooms. I tried some new ones, Shimeji to be precise (used in many asian soup and rice dishes). Later, at home, I was taking a closer look at the product: the mushrooms were growing from a visible layer of shredded cereals that had not been removed. After a quick web research I learned that these mushrooms are commonly cultivated on a cereal-based medium like wheat bran. I hope that info his helpful to someone.

And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.
