Gluten Free Meal In Nyc

I am spending tomorrow in New York City for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Does anyone out there know of anywhere nearby that has gluten free food? (I am a vegeterian too!)

Risotteria, It is sooo good, they have a gluten free menu and all this gluten-free stuff including breadsticks and cookies and all this really good stuff. I would reccomend it even to a person without celiac.

Those links have some NYC gluten-free restaurants. I am a veggie, too, and most of these places have food for us! Risotteria especially but it is down in West Village. I can't think of what is close by Radio City Music Hall but if you locate these on a map you should be able to find something close and if not things will only be a short subway ride away! I LOVE eating in NYC!

Risotteria is by far one of the best gluten-free restaurants in the city. However if you want something a bit closer to where you are going to be there is an italian restaurant in Times Square called Osteria Al Doge. It is upscale italian (but not to pricey) so it's not all the typical chicken parm kinda stuff. Anyway, I went there during lunch one day with co-workers and was suprised to see that this Italian restaurant had so many options for me. I had an awesome risotto dish there, and they were very accomodating to make sure everything was gluten-free for me.

Thanks for your information everybody. We will probably head down to Rissoteria. From what I have heard, it is the best for gluten-free in New York.

      Rectal pain

      I was suffering from PF just previous to being dx with celiac disease about 25 yr. ago but have not been troubled with it since. Not sure what the connection between the two is of if there is one. But I do know it is a very painful condition that takes your breath away when it strikes.

      Rectal pain

      I have dealt with proctalgia fugax on and off for a year now. It feels almost paralyzing during an episode and they have started lasting longer and longer, sometimes 20+ minutes. I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and wonder if the 2 are related. I did request a prescription for topical nitroglycerin for my PF episodes and that has helped tremendously...

      Hey @Butch68, I also have dermatitis herpetiformis but don't suffer from it anymore. I used to drink Guinness too but I drink Cider now when out on social occasions. I assume you are in Ireland or the UK. If it's any good to you ... 9 White Deer based in Cork brew a range of gluten-free products including a gluten-free Stout. I'm not sure if they...

      Gluten Issues and Vitamin D

      This is a very common question, and the most important thing to know is that no, Guinness is not considered safe for individuals with coeliac disease. While it's fascinating to hear anecdotes from other coeliacs who can drink it without immediate issues, this is a risky exception rather than the rule. The core issue is that Guinness is brewed from barley, which contains gluten, and the standard brewing process does not remove the gluten protein to a level safe for coeliacs (below 20ppm). For someone like you who experiences dermatitis herpetiformis, the reaction is particularly significant. DH is triggered by gluten ingestion, even without immediate gastrointestinal symptoms. So, while you may not feel an instant stomach upset, drinking a gluten-containing beer like Guinness could very well provoke a flare-up of your skin condition days later. It would be a gamble with a potentially uncomfortable and long-lasting consequence. Fortunately, there are excellent, certified gluten-free stouts available now that can provide a safe and satisfying alternative without the risk.
