Will The Biopsy Resluts Be Accurate?

Hmmm.......another question! :D

I got biopsies yesterday, and I'm wondering  :

Will they be accurate even though I've been on a gluten free diet for about a week before the test?

I didn't know that my GI was going to do the biopsies because she said "eventually" we would if my blood tests showed anything........(she hasn't given me the results on the blood tests yet, even though she has them! )

Anyway, do you guys think that I could still get an accurate result with the biopsy if I was only gluten free for a week? Or would it become inaccurate shorty after going gluten free........ ;)

Any thoughts would help me much! Thank you!

You need to be on gluten all during testing and that may affect the results. The biopsies can be a hit or miss even while on gluten though. They can only rule celiac in but not out. If you have beginning stages or sporadic damage they can easily miss it.

Thanks for replying! :)

Now does anyone know this answer:

Because I only got a weak 16 from my enterolab results (normal<10), and those are supposed to be the most specific tests, that means that my bloodwork from my GI are probably coming back negative.

Hmmmm, am I barking up the wrong tree here? Is something else going on with me that has nothing to do with gluten?

Well...nobody can really predict what will happen with your bloodtests but the antibody number you have is not indicative of severity. Enterolab states on the report (you should have it) that the number you are referring to does not indicate severity in symptoms or damage...etc. A positive is a positive....a result of 11 can be equal to a score of 200 in terms of how a person's body reacts to gluten. You didnt have a positive tTG or malabsorption...so that means you dont have damage or if you do its minimal....which is good. My IgA was the same as yours 16. I was *mostly* off gluten for 4 months before testing so dont know if that changes the number but like I said before it doesnt matter. I had positive tTG results and my malabsorption score was 913. So there was damage. You will just have to wait till all tests are completed to try and figure things out. I know waiting sucks but you pretty much already know that gluten is a problem whether you have celiac disease or not.

Thanks for the list too makes me realise why I still get symptoms after cutting gluten , all that reading has just made sense to why I'm still struggling , thankyou Scott Adams very insightful , I've been baking to and there is xanthum gum in the flour , I understand now why I still have issues with that too, and ive had to cut dairy also , i had a terrible flare few months ago and my throat also was very irritable and I had sinuses issues all makes sence 👍
