Blood test looks normal, could it still be coeliac

Hello, I have many symptoms of coeliac disease and went to my doctor on Monday to get tested. I get extreme fatigue, anxiety, occasional diarrhoea and abdominal cramps, dry skin/rash on my hands, bloating and nausea. I notice symptoms are worse after having a heavy gluten meal such as pasta or spaghetti.

I've had some of my blood tests back online which seem normal. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate was 7mm/h and Anti-tissue transglutnase level was 0.5 u/mL. I think these results are normal but I feel like coeliac would explain all my symptoms.

Can you please confirm that these mean i dont have coeliac or is it still a possibility, would the doctor have run more tests which haven't come back yet and what do I do next? Thank you ?

Welcome!  You really need lab ranges, but I will take your word that the results were normal.  The Anti-TTG is the celiac test.  Did they run an Immunoglobulin A (IgA) test?  If that result is not normal, you could be IgA deficient and that tells the doctor that the Anti-TTG IgA test is not valid.  Add in the fact that 10% of celiacs are seronegative.  Consider asking for the complete celiac panel.

You can not rule out celiac disease based on this one result.

The other simple test looks for inflammation that could be attributed any any autoimmune disease or illness like some cancers, etc.

Thank you for the reply. I’m not sure if they’ve done more tests they’ve been putting them up gradually so maybe there will be another one. The normal range for the Anti-tissue transglutnase was >10.9u/ml

I can tell you that I have never had a positive TTG  (either IgA or IgG versions).  My EMA has always been negative too, even in follow-up testing.  I have ONLY had a positive on the DGP IgA and my 8ntetinal biopsies revealed moderate to severe patches of intestinal damage.  I did not even have any GI symptoms!   Odd, but true.  The TTG catches most celiacs, but not all!

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
