Genetics Question

if genetic testing comes back as “positive for DQ2” with no additional info, what does that mean? It doesn’t specify 2.2 or 2.5. How is DQ2 broken down? If you have only 2.2, do you have half of DQ2? If you have only 2.5, do you have half? Or is 2.5 the “complete” DQ2? So confused.

That gene indicates your are part werewolf!  :(

Eeek!   :

Sorry, I don't know the exact answer to your question.  I do know that having the genes for celiac disease does not mean you will automatically get celiac disease.  About 28% of people in the USA have one of the genes related to celiac disease, but only about a 1% actually get celiac disease.  There are theories about why that is so, but no definite conclusions.   It could be the genes are activated by a stimulus like a virus, or an emotional stress ( I call BS on that) or pissing off your doctor somehow.  But the fact is it remains that some people with the gene get celiac and others don't.  I guess some people get more gene fertilizer than others?

If you are concerned  about having celiac disease, stay on gluten and get tested.  The tests aren't accurate after you quit eating gluten.  The test (blood antibodies first) measure the immune response to gliaden, a protein in wheat gluten.  Then later usually, an endoscopy takes biopsy samples to review for possible celiac type damage.

It's much more pleasant to stay on gluten and get the testing done than stop eating gluten and have to start eating it again for testing.  If you have celiac that is; IMHO.

Welcome to the forum, we are glad to help with any questions!  :)  Just don't make them too hard!  :)   There is a Newbie 101 thread in the Coping With section with some answers.

Thank you so much! I’m asking for a different reason. One of my children has celiac and we have all had a celiac panel done and are awaiting genetic testing results. My other child got back a result of “dq2” and I was just curious because in my research, I see that dq2.2 alone is way less commonly linked to celiac. DQ2.2 is what I believe I have as well. So I’m wondering when a lab says “dq2” if it involves 2.2, 2.5 or both? Thanks for the info!

But M&M's contain milk, and would not be at all like a Tootsie Roll.

I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver. After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

I see it everyday on my feeds.  They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts.  I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field.  Some days I would just like to scream.  So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach them properly. I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
