Sexual symptoms?

Hello all,

First off, this forum and site is really informative, thank you for sharing. The stories here have helped me decide to go gluten free for at least 8 weeks to see if my symptoms could be due to gluten. I also cut out sugar a few days back at advice of my doctor, because sugar can exacerbate anxiety. My main issue has always been severe SEVERE anxiety. But despite therapy it felt like it was getting worse over the years.

For the first time I'm seriously making a list. I have C most of the time (hemmies from pushing too much, yay..) , except during my period, when it's D. Depression and fatigue (adrenal fatigue sounds like it), trouble concentrating, ocular migraines, cold hands and feet (even white painful fingers regularly) and other things that I never considered could be responses to food. My dad and brother have near constant gut issues. Lightbulb!

I am now searching and I know, I know... it may not be gluten. The again... I have been nearly anxiety free for 2 weeks since cutting out gluten!

But part of me is thinking "nahh that's placebo, the anxiety is going to blindside ya sooner or later..". Another part of me is screaming with joy. I can do things without being tense all the time! It's not great (yet), I still have trouble being present sometimes, but it seems so much better already. :O

Now, I have a question for the girls here...

I used to have more feeling "down there". But over the years, that went away.. I used to be delightfully sensitive in the clitoris. Vagina.. Meh not so much, never really. And the past few years, I've really had to... Well *force* my way to an orgasm really... I'm pretty sore afterwards and days after sometimes too...

It just... I hate saying it but it doesn't even feel good anymore. Neither touching nor the orgasm.

Can anyone relate? Could this be connected?? And if so... Do you think going gluten free can help improve it with time? I'm hopeful but a bit scared and insecure about it too...

Thank you for reading

Sorry it took so long for someone to reply, and unfortunately I'm not a woman and able to address some of your post here, but if sensitive to it, gluten can cause a huge variety of symptoms, and I would not doubt it if all you've mentioned here could be caused by gluten sensitivity.

How did your gluten-free diet go? Did you continue it, and if so, did it continue to help with your symptoms?

I'm sure it's chemically perfect. Most of them taste lousy!

Hi @JulieRe.  I just found your post.  It seems that I am also experiencing thrush, and my doctor believes that I have fungal overgrowth in my gut, which is most likely candida.  I'm seeing my GI doctor next week, so I'm hoping she can diagnose and confirm this and then give me an antifungal treatment.  In the meantime, I have been working with a functional medicine doctor, doing a candida cleanse and taking vitamins. It's already helping to make me feel better (with some ups and downs, of course), so I do think the yeast is definitely a problem for me on top of my celiac disease and I'm hoping my GI doctor can look into this a bit further.  So, how about you?  Did the candida come back, or is it still gone following your fluconazole treatment?  Also, was it awful to take fluconazole?  I understand that taking an antifungal can cause a reaction that sometimes makes people feel sick while they're taking it.  I hope you're doing better still !

I'm so sorry you're going through this—the "gluten challenge" is notoriously brutal, and it's awful to deliberately make yourself sick when you've already found the answer. For the joint pain, many people find that over-the-counter anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen can help take the edge off, and using heating pads or warm baths can provide some direct relief for the aches. For the digestive misery, stick to simple, easy-to-digest foods (like plain rice, bananas, and bone broth) and drink plenty of water and electrolytes to stay hydrated. It feels like the longest month ever, but you are doing the right thing to get a clear diagnosis, which can be crucial for your long-term health and getting the proper care. Hang in there; you can get through this! This article, and the comments below it, may be helpful:

Daura Damm (a sponsor here) uses AN-PEP enzymes and filtering in their brewing process to reduce/remove gluten, and it actually tests below 10ppm (I've see a document where they claim 5ppm).

This topic has come up before on this forum and has been researched. No GMO wheat, barley and rye are commercially available in the USA. Any modifications are from hybridization, not laboratory genetic modification. Better toleration of wheat, barley and rye products in other countries is thought to be due to use of heirloom varieties of these cereal grains as opposed to the hybrids used in the USA which contain much larger amounts of gluten.
