Waiting For Results For Blood Tests

Hi

My daughter (18 months) has celiac disease, a really bad case of it too, her villi were completely gone when she did the biopsy.

I got the bloods done yesterday and have to wait for Monday for the results, I have felt the last five years something just hasn't been right here are the details.

5 years ago - got really bad bloating and put on 15 kilos pretty quickly, also started getting depression - I put it down to a stressful job. I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome as I was constipated (basically they didn't know what it was so put it down to that)

up to now - gained more weight as I have had two children since, can't seem to shift it. Also suffered from Post Natal Depression and often feel flat. I also get really tired a lot of the time. I also have a sluggish digestive system and can get constipated often.

I am not really expecting it come back as positive as from what I know Celiacs usually suffer from weight loss not gain is that right? And they usually have runny stools not constipated? Anyway do you think there is a chance, or is it really unlikely?

Belinda

I think it's very likely. Your daughter had to get her celiac gene(s) from somebody right? I never had the weight loss aspect of the disease. And right now I'm working on losing over 50 lbs. So no matter what the blood work indicates, you might want to try the gluten-free diet anyway. Nothing to lose, lots to gain!

I had GAINED tons of weight with my celiac... lol... (my celiac!!!) I've been gluten-free now for almost 3 years (in March) and since going gluten-free I've lost about 100 pounds give or take a few... so yeah, weight gain can def. be part of it.

Even if your blood tests come back negative, go ahead and try the diet and see if it helps you.

I've asked that question too... I not thin so how is it possible? Especially when I have the opposite problem. What's worse than being bloated AND constipated, I'd like to know!

My health practitioner told me that we all don't fit the textbook definition of anything. It's textbook, typical, of what to look for but we bring our own issues along with the dis-ease.

I hope this helps. When I went gluten-free about three years ago (not counting my relapse this holiday) I lost about 30 pounds. I'm still struggling with the last 10-15 but this might be my year! I'm hoping to find my stride with my food and achieve some balance where I have the energy to exercise on a regular basis and not eat those things with damage my energy or my body.

Best of luck...

Thanks for your replies

I didn't realise that there were so many different symptoms.

nini - wow 100 pounds that is incredible - wonder how the doctors explained that one lol.

I think I am going to go gluten-free even if the tests are negative just to see if it improves my life.

Oh if the bloods are negative, I read somewhere it may not be conclusive? What should I do then, insist on a biopsy?

LOL, one of the Dr.s I went to before my dx, told me that I just needed to lose weight (DUH!) and that I "just had IBS" and that I needed to eat MORE WHEAT! I went on the diet he reccommended and in one week I GAINED 10-15 pounds... I screamed at this idiot and quickly found another Dr.

lol Maybe we went to the same dr! Except mine didn't say eat more wheat, why on earth would anyone need to eat more wheat? weird

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
