Genetics and Endoscopy Help

I was diagnosed in 2007 by blood and biopsy. I was young and did not hold onto my records besides the images. I have been on a strict gluten-free lifestyle and have severe reactions if I am glutened. I had genetic testing done because my 17 month old son is in the process of potential diagnosis. He has HLA-DQ8 (0302) and HLA-DQ7 (0301). I assumed the 8 was from me. My testing came back with HLA-DQ7 and HLA-DQ0202. My understanding is that the DQ2 for Celiac is 0201. So, do I have the DQ2 or not? If not, then do I not have one of the Celiac genes?

Also, can I get opinions on these endoscopy images? The top shows esophagitis. The bottom is the small bowel. Does it look like villi atrophy?

i am trying to track down records, but as you can imagine, it’s quite difficult. I appreciate your perspective!

I can not help with the genetic testing as I was never tested and have not really researched it enough to comment.  But members have reported having different genes and having celiac disease.

While the newer scopes have higher magnification, the older scopes did not.  Based on my last endoscopy, you could see the villi (the first one showed no visual damage at all).  Your photos are not that great.  I think you really need the pathologist’s report and then consult with a GI who is celiac-savvy.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
