Feeling Dizzy And Lightheaded

Hi,

I have been recently diagnosed and have been on a gluten-free diet for only 4 days. Almost always after I eat I feel dizzy and lightheaded. Is this normal? Or does it mean I have eaten some gluten?

Jennifer

It could mean that you're still getting gluten, as I know some people have that symptom. Have you checked your products (shampoos, lotions, toothpastes, etc.--basically anything that has a possibility of being ingested) to make sure that they are all gluten free?

If you are 100% gluten free, then it could just be your body adjusting to the change. I was dizzy off and on for about 2-3 months after going gluten free, but it eventually went away. I hope you begin to feel better soon!

I was very lightheaded the first 1-2 months gluten-free. I agree with just making sure you're not getting any hidden gluten and try and get as much rest as you can. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water. It will pass--sometimes the healing process gets a bit worse before it gets better :)

I'm dizzy and lightheaded today, and I've been gluten-free for 10 months. I think that this happens to everybody - even some people that I work with, after the 3 day weekend, feel crummy today. Since I've felt at least this bad for much of my life, I just ride it out and do what I have to do.

your blood sugar might be out of whack too, I know when I first went gluten-free, my blood sugar would plummet because I wasn't eating enough to sustain me. (I thought I was but interestingly enough, when I wasn't gluten-free I ate like a bird and couldn't lose weight, now that I'm gluten-free I eat like a PIG and the weight is just falling off. Seems like I'm always hungry, and sometimes if I don't eat enough I get very dizzy and lightheaded.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
