Gluten in Medications

Thaliabreeze

Recommended Posts

Thaliabreeze Newbie

We just recently have been told that our daughter Thalia most likely has Celiac Disease.  It has not been an easy diagnosis for her because she has a chromosomal syndrome that affects the blood tests.  So, we have been instructed to put her on a strict gluten free diet for three months and then they will biopsy her gut to see if there are any improvements.  I have seen the GI nutritionist in regards to the diet.  However, while researching on the internet I saw that medications also contain gluten.  She is an extremely medically challenged little girl and is on all sorts of medications.  I am trying to get her pharmacist to help me, but they seem to be in the dark with how to handle the situation.  I am looking for other parents who might be able to help guide me.  She has been gluten free for almost 5 weeks now, but I am concerned that all of our efforts have been wasted because of the medications.  This medication issue has me so stressed and overwhelmed. Does anyone have any helpful tips or guides on how I can make sure she is not getting gluten through her medications.

The best thing to do is talk to the pharmacist and if they can't help the next thing would be to try contacting the pharmaceutical company that makes them.

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
