hello,

For years I have been suffering with stomach problems, such as nausea, gas, bloating, sharp pains in stomach, heartburn, indigestion etc... in the past 3 months these symptoms have extrmely intensified. I had to go to the hospital a few times for the discomfort. I went to the doctor for this problem in the begininng when the symptoms increase. They gave me losec for my heartburn and i had several blood tests done for different diffeciencies and diseases (except for celiac) all which came back negative. I had an upper/lower GI test done and an ultrasound done, both came back negative and normal. I am sooo very frusterated with the way I fee. I feel soooo sick. I have no energy, iam lathargic, I have nausea, bloating, gas, chills, a burning sensation in my throat and chest, indigestion, upset stomach, stomach pains. I have suffered from depression in the past, and I am suffering from it now. I can not concentrate on anything. After eating i feel sick, and have any of the symptoms i described above. I have lost about 10 pounds in three months due to this. Basically I feel sick all the time. I am getting my blood tested for celiac disease tommorow. Can any of you tell me if you have had any of these symptoms, and if you think i may have celiac disease?

Thanks,

Lemonade

Those can all be symptoms of Celiac Disease. If the test results come back negative I would still highly recommend trying the diet anyway. Not everyone on here had positive blood tests but had very positive response to the diet. The tests arent always 100% accurrate. Good luck. :)

It sounds very much like classic Celiac, what tests are they running on you? You need to make sure that they do the most specific Celiac panel of tests... keeping in mind that many people have negative blood tests and a positive biopsy, and even some have negative blood test and negative biopsy and still respond positively to the gluten free diet.

here are the specific tests you need to have to get a better chance of an accurate diagnosis.

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG

Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA

Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA

Total Serum IgA

Im pretty sure they are testing for all the components above. I just had a blood test for celiac disease this morning, the results are to be in in a couple days. I am going to try gluten free today. However, I am feeling really overwelmed with what i can and cant eat, hidden glutens etc...I am going to start a new thread becasue i have many many questions on this. If anyone can answer them, i would be greatful.

When is your biopsy? You do want to stay on a diet containing gluten before you get a biopsy. If you eat gluten free then your biopsy could come back negative even if you have celiacs. It has to do with the villi in your intestines being flattened when eating gluten and I believe this is what they look for in the biopsy. If you stop eating gluten the intestines will begin to heal and it could affect the test results.

I got diagnosed by entrolab. I had a negative blood test and my biopsy came back negative. I was however eating very little gluten at the time of my biopsy because I had already figure out myself that when I ate bread, crackers, cereal etc. I felt the worst, although I felt sick all the time. The doctor said I could do a gluten challenge where you go back to consuming gluten and then they will rebiopsy. HOwever, there is no way I would do that because I have been gluten free for about 2 months and feeling so much better. Definetly not 100% but SOOO much better. Your symptoms sound very much like mine so I'd say hold off on the gluten free diet until your biopsy and then try it. Just like others said there are people here including me that didn't get a positive result but are definelty improving on the diet. So regardless of your results it is worth a try. There are lists of Gluten free foods in the grocery stores that you can get so when you start on the diet as it is sooo confusing you know of atleast some things that are safe and then you can slowly learn as you go. Kraft has a website where they list all of there gluten free foods. I found when I first staarted on the gluten free diet I would still get sick even when I ate gluten free so give it some time. I staarted out eating plain chicken and steamed vegetables and things I knew I could handle and then I am slowly reintroducing things iin my diet and it keeps expanding so that is great! Hang in there we know how you feel.

Have you tried Pure Encapsulations supplements? This is a brand my doctor recommends for me. I have no issues with this brand.

plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗
