I've suffered enormous amounts of pain with my teeth. I regular floss and brush my teeth, but, I now I have a second tooth that developed a crack in it. A bit of it fell out of it the other day. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having these problems. Thanks

Yes--Although I have had very little tooth decay (only 2 cavities in my life), I have had problems with teeth chipping and cracking. The first time, it was a back molar. I was chewing something, and felt the worst pain--I had broken the tooth, and had to have it pulled. I also have another molar that has chipped at the top edge, and have had to have a front tooth bonded because it chipped.

Alas, I can't say I only had two cavities. I'm an average teen for you. Anyway, was the molar a tooth that had a filling over it? I believe mine had a filling over it . I discovered it is decayed from the inside out after that bit fell out. I've noticed also I have extreme sensitivities to cold, hot or even normal temperature foods. Do you have any suggestions for trying to prevent these chips and cracks? I’m going to the dentist tomorrow, but, I’m hurting so bad. I’ve been jamming lemon extract in the hole in my tooth but the relief does not last long.

Hi Rinku--welcome ! No, none of the teeth that cracked were decayed. Because Celiac can cause vitamin and mineral deficiences, it may be that a lack of calcium was to blame in my case. I had Celiac, undiagnosed, for a long time. I'm hoping that now that I'm absorbing better, the chipping will stop. Other than that, I don't know of any way to prevent it. Of course regular, good oral hygene and regular dental cleanings are necessary, and maybe a good multivitamin. If a cavity is left untreated, it will eventually cause a greater problem--including the breaking you describe. Good luck at the dentist--ask him or her about the hot/cold sensitivity--if they recommend a certain toothpaste, remember to check to make sure it's gluten-free. Also, be sure to tell the staff there that you have Celiac. :)

Same with me....I have only 2 cavities, and they were actually caused due to defects and splitting. My back molar also had to be pulled, and the other back one was starting to do the same thing so I had to cap it. I think I read that some people can have teeth problems...ridges and things that can lead to chipping/breaking.

My son's tooth once disintegrated piece by piece - dentist first tried gluing it together, but in the end, he picked out the pieces one by one. Some dentists use varnish for celiacs, but my personal view is to do it from the inside by good supplements. Remember, vit D is fat soluble and often deficient in celiacs due to fat malabsorption.

My son is a teenager now and I have switched him to liquid vitamins, because they are better absorbed.

He is not even a celiac, "only" gluten-sensitive, but he still displayed deficiencies in fat-soluble vitamins and other nutrients, although he never had any gut problems.

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?
