Cure For Ibs ?

I'm on a mission to stop my stomach from hurting all the time. I'm on the gluten free, food sensitivity, vegan diet and I have added oils with EFA's to my diet for nutrition and to aid with chronic "C". So far, so good. My bowels are moving like clockwork and my stomach is no longer churning. Just left with a little gas related chest pain, but it's really not a big deal at this point.

I've read where You can't cure IBS with diet, but I am beginning to wonder. Anyone else ? Anyone trying oils / with EFA's ?

BTW, all the meds were either too strong or useless. Zelnorm worsened my stomach cramps.

Thanks for your help ... Marcia

Were you tested for Celiac? Many times, celiac has been misdiagnosed as IBS. If a the diet you are following makes you feel better, then you are most likely intolerant of something that you were eating, and that is what was causing your pain. Many of us started gluten-free trying to find a "cure" for our illnesses.

Going gluten-free and dairy-free has eliminated my IBS symptoms. Since IBS is not a disease, there is no cure anyways.

Thanks for your replies. SOooo, does this mean I can stop waiting for the pain to come back ????

I've been on this diet for 6 months now and mostly pain free for about a month, simply because I was in denial about a few foods I didn't want to part with.

Any word on the "C" and using oils to help deal with it ? I'm just using what the bottle labels as the RDA amount or less and I feel fine. Cramped a little in the beginning, but not anymore.

Unfortunately, I wasn't tested for celiac. I saw a GI for 2 years and he did an endo and colonoscopy, but didn't look for celiac. My GP diagnosed me as celiac based on positive diet response in Sept 05.

Thanks again folks ... marcia

You can cure IBS. Look at the Specific carbohydrate diet at www.breakingtheviciouscycle.com. it is amazing and really, really works!!!!!!!

Well after getting a good nites sleep, it dawned on me that I was obviously misdiagnosed with IBS. DUH !!!!! That's what ya'll have been trying to tell me, but I couldn't process it. The old brain fog.

Good foods = no cramps, pain, "D", or "C"

Bad foods = cramps, pain, "D" and "C"

Don't ya'll just love explaining things fifty times ..... Thank you .... Marcia

That's ok, Marcia. With some of the doctors that some of us have had, we have learned to patiently explain things over and over. As the fog clears, you will understand!

good luck! vital wheat gluten made me violently ill. I will touch the stuff ever again.

I wouldn't consider this lucky. I can NOT tolerate the symptoms. And I googled it and I was not even getting 10 grams of gluten per day and I was extremely ill. They'd have to put me in the hospital. I'm not kidding.   I will have my first appt with a GI dr on March 4th   I will not eat gluten again - at least not on purpose   they are going to have to come up with a test that doesn't require it.

What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks

I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.

I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).
