Once again, You've Done It!! You are fantastic at finding articles that are SOOOOOO good :) Thank you so much . . . .. Lynne

good article, though there were some things in there that made me sad, like her mentioning that she can not have a homemade birthday cake? That's just not true!!! Can I get ahold of this girl and tell her about Pamela's deluxe brownie mix that you can make a cake with???

Great article! I had the same reaction you did Nini - no birthday cake - that's so not true. I just had a birthday a few weeks ago and had a wonderful gluten-free cake.

every year since my dx and my daughter's we have had the most MAAAAHHHVELOUS birthday cakes... I've even served cakes and cupcakes at her preschool that got RAVE reviews from everyone... all the kids begged for more and all the adults in the building just HAD to have the most delicious moistest cake they'd ever tried!!!! LOL And I almost always use Pamela's Brownie mix and follow the directions on the bag to make it into a cake. My other fave cake is The Gluten Free Pantry's Old Fashioned Cake and Cookie mix... makes awesome white cakes and sugar cookies.

I can't have sugar so Pamela's cakes aren't for me. My favorite gluten-free sugar free recipe for cake is the Harvest Muffins in "Wheat-Free, Gluten-Free Cookbook for Kids and Busy Adults" by Connie Sarros. It is wonderful. Everytime it's made I have to fight my family and friends to get a piece (I'm the only gluten-free person).

I had the same response--What? No birthday cake?! Her typical days' meals look a little bleak to me too. Maybe she is picky, though like my kids. Jeeeez, even a pie with a meringue crust or something like that! Great article, though. McD's are trying hard to cover their butts with all this "double-speak", huh? I seriously smell major law suits and I'm not even a lawyer.

Desperately need a vitamin D supplement. I've reacted to most brands I've tried.

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.

Thanks @Scott Adams. Do you know if Kirkland Signature supplements share facility and production lines with other products containing gluten?  I'm worried that I'll react to this brand just like I did with other gluten-free labelled supplement brands.

This is a really common area of confusion. Most natural cheeses (cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, Parmesan, brie, camembert, and most blue cheeses) are inherently gluten-free, and you’re right that the molds used today are typically grown on gluten-free media. The bigger risks tend to come from processed cheeses: shredded cheese (anti-caking agents), cheese spreads, beer-washed rinds, smoke-flavored cheeses, and anything with added seasonings or “natural flavors,” where cross-contact can happen. As for yeast, you’re also correct — yeast itself is gluten-free. The issue is the source: brewer’s yeast and yeast extracts can be derived from barley unless labeled gluten-free, while baker’s yeast is generally safe. When in doubt, sticking with whole, unprocessed cheeses and products specifically labeled gluten-free is the safest approach, especially if you’re highly sensitive.
