Trying gluten-free Diet In My Family

My 12-year old son was diagnosed with celiac 12/05; the rest of the family had negative bloodwork 1/06. I went gluten-free with my son, and my brain fog, fatigue & chronic sinusitis seem to be lots better (though I admit I'm afraid to get my hopes up, just in case it doesn't last).

Anyway, after reading Dangerous Grains, I want to have the rest of the family go gluten-free to see if it makes a difference for any of them--there are enough niggling health complaints that I really want to know whether they're connected to gluten or not.

How long should I keep them gluten-free in order to see whether it has any effect?

Carol

2 months - NO CHEATING. Any cheating negates the effect of the test. :-(

I would say three to six months because it takes the first couple of months to get used to the diet and get all the hidden glutens out of it.

I am going to say 6 months, since like nini said it could take you a while to get all the bugs out of eating gluten free.

You could tell a difference sooner, but stay on it for at least 6 months just in case you are a slow healer.

I have been looking for new dishes. I was surprised to find dishes made of wheat straw. Are these safe for us? I'm very careful to avoid products that may contain gluten. I never thought I might have to check for wheat in dishes.

Going on a cruise next week and I’m a celiac. Bought a bottle of GliandinX. Should I just take two tablets per day as a precaution? Never tried this before!! Any help is appreciated!!
