Thanks for the explanation Fasteddy.  DH testing involves taking a small skin sample from near a DH lesion, not on it.  They check the skin sample for IgA antibodies.  People with DH may not have positive blood antibodies though.  Maybe because the antibodies are concentrated in the skin instead of the blood?  Anyhow, if you do have a DH diagnosis then you are celiac confirmed, regardless of what blood antibody tests show.

Oh, and I misspelled that word.  It is apoptosis.

Hi All..

My last post in this forum.. I am not a celiac.. and do not have a gluten intolerance either.. Have now gone 6 weeks without gluten and no difference felt or observed. All of my problems were down to my nightshade allergy which is very severe. Baked a loaf of gluteny bread yesterday, lots of toast later and no reaction.

Think my biggest problem has been impatience, having gone without nightshades for a month, I really thought I would have recovered from all the physical symptoms, but after nearly 60 years of continually ingesting nightshades I guess I have some much longer lasting damage, especially to my digestive system, that is not going to go away overnight. My best guess (and it is a guess) is that my leaky gut is going to take many more months to heal, I have read about some folk taking up to 18 months. I am ok with that as it is the not knowing that has caused me so much stress.

So, improved diet, some more structured excercise and I will take each day as it comes.

Really want to thank you guys for the advice and support, has been a difficult time, especially as there is so little info here in the UK. Nightshade allergies are ranked 14th here, and only the top ten allergies have any labelling requirements for food so it is almost impossible to eat processed foods, but that just points me to healthier living, which aint so bad.

Reading the many posts on this forum was a sharp and severe education for me, broke my heart to see so many suffering from such distressing effects and although my probs were from a different source, I did feel in good company while on this forum. Hope it continues long into the future and that you are able to help others get through their difficulties with the compassion and support that I felt while here.

Although you may not hear it from across the Atlantic, much applause to you folk..

Oh, and I was going to post my soap recipe, which I still very much recommend as a big help for DH. Much kinder to your skin than the harsh chemicals found in todays 'soap'. Instead of that, here is a link to a US site that is where I started to learn about soap making, a third of the way down the page is a recipe that I still use under the heading 'How to Make Soap for Hand & Body'.  https://www.diynatural.com/how-to-make-soap/

Just be careful adding essential oils, they can be quite potent and you should always conduct a skin test to make sure there is no reaction, can recommend lavender oil if it is ok to use as it is good at healing skin.

Thats all folks, be happy, be well, stay safe..

Good luck with everything and I hope you've found a solution! Keep in mind that most celiacs and those with gluten-sensitivity don't have obvious symptoms, and many have zero symptoms, so just eating some gluten and having no reaction won't rule them out...but I do hope that you don't have either issue!

What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein bar to fill and play it safe.

Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
