BP Medication and Constipation

I’ve been in complete remission for 18 years post diagnosis of celiac after a 46 year misdiagnosis. New doc put me on Verapamil and three days in, I’m severely constipated for the first time since diagnosis. Anyone on BP meds that are easier on the body?

I take lisinopril.  Doesn't cause any problem for me.  Made me cough for a few months until I got used to it.

Constipation one of the known side effects of verapamil. There are many BP meds to choose from so I advise talking to your doctor. Does the med have a diuretic effect? If so, you may need to increase your fluid intake to keep your bowels lubricated.

I take Losartan now after stating out first with Linsopril, but having some unwanted side effects. I seem to tolerate Losartan well.

      If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly...

      No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

      Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done...

      Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.
