I want to go to the farmers market but I scared they are gonna take a break to eat not wash their hands then touch the fruit and vegetables . Does anyone else have that concern? How would you deal with that would you not buy from the market or buy and just wash the stuff extra ? Or worse they eat right there in their stand dropping crumbs everywhere or the people walking around eating I'm super stressed out about this disease I am super sensitive I can't have any gluten in my house in 3 years I have only made it 3 months with out accidentally gluten once and the last 3 times was from other people's actions thank you for your time

Hello,

I buy at the farmers market all the time as it is still how we do our shopping where I live in SE Europe. It is easy to wash fruit and vegetables so you shouldn't worry so much as any potential gluten can be washed away. I havent really seen the sellers eating sandwiches above their wares though (I had the same concern in the beginning). The only thing I changed are the butchers at those markets and I now buy only from those that sell pure meats (no marinated stuff). You seem to be a very sensitive celiac so I understand your concerns, but living in fear is also not good and can take a toll on your health. If your groceries can be washed properly then I think it shouldn't be a problem. Also, a lot of fruit and vegs are the kind you have to or can peel so that gives you an extra layer of protection and reassurance. Best wishes!

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.

It's most likely going to be a celiac disease diagnosis based on your blood test results, but wait for your doctor to give you a green light for going gluten-free, as they may want to do additional testing. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
