Should I be concerned? Bad Symptoms

Hi everyone,

34 Year old Male. Diagnosed with Celiac Disease in late July this year (2022).

Around early August last year (2021) i've been experiencing really bad symptoms, it started off one morning when I woke up and my body felt different. Numbness & tingling in hands and feet, migraine, chest pain, uncoordinated with movement, brain fog. Not long after this i've had tons of other issues anxiety, depression, sound sensitivity, light sensitivity, breathing issues. It's weird because the sensitivity issues seem more of a problem on the right side of my body. Aswell as stomach cramp/pain, lower abdominal cramp/pain, changes in my private area and activity.

I've put up with these symptoms for a long time now, I was undiagnosed for 12 months because of either incompetence or just lack of care from my GP. I kept pushing and pushing with loads of phone calls regularly because I knew something wasn't right, being told at first it was just stress to anxiety to ibs to aging to possible hernia. Given excuse after excuse by many doctors about my conditions and after about 5 blood tests later they finally diagnosed me with Celiac Disease. Since that day they officially confirmed that I have Celiac Disease i've completely changed my diet to gluten free so it's been around 2 months now.

I know this is kind of long so I thank you for your patience for reading this. I'm really concerned with this because the past week I've using the toilet to pee more frequently than usual. It's getting to the point i'm waking up in the middle of the night mutliple times to go aswell as really intense pain in my stomach, lower abdominal when i'm lying down that disrupts my sleep. At times I would get discomfort in the groin and when I poo it's more difficult. I went the doctor this past week and they did some examinations. Urine test, took a sample of blood and felt my stomach and lower abdominal area yet they couldn't find the problem and the doctor is saying this isn't celliac related. I don't know what to believe after bad experiences with them the last 14 months.

Any ideas? Also will any of my symptoms go away eventually?

Do you empty your bladder completely at night when you pee? Have you been checked for enlarged prostate? Have you had a bladder cystoscopy? Have you been checked for diabetes?

I have not heard of these kinds of symptoms in connection with celiac disease so I would assume it is something else.

It is Celiac related.  It vitamin and mineral deficiencies from malabsorption due to Celiac.

Deficiencies in Thiamine and magnesium and B12 can cause urgency and frequency problems with the bladder.

Constipation (or diarrhea) can be a symptom of Thiamine deficiency.

Type 1 Diabetes is more common on those with celiac disease, so I would begin by getting screened for that just to be safe.

Also, recheck your diet for any hidden gluten, and I agree that you may need vitamin/mineral supplements as well.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?

There are eight essential B vitamins.  They are all water soluble.  Any excess of B vitamins is easily excreted by the kidneys.   Thiamine is Vitamin B 1.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Benfotiamine and TTFD are forms of Thiamine that the body can utilize very easily.   The form of Thiamine in the supplements you mentioned is Thiamine Mononitrate, a form that the body does not absorb well and does not utilize well.  Only about thirty percent of the amount on the label is actually absorbed in the small intestine.  Less than that can actually be used by the body.  Manufacturers add thiamine mononitrate to their products because it's cheap and shelf-stable.  Thiamine and other B vitamins break down when exposed to light and heat and over time.  Thiamine Mononitrate is a form that does not break down over time sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy them.  What makes Thiamine Mononitrate shelf stable makes it difficult for the body to turn into a useable form.  In fact, it takes more thiamine to turn it into a useable form.   Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a localized shortage of Thiamine in the gastrointestinal tract.  High carbohydrate meals can result in gastrointestinal symptoms of Gastric Beriberi.  Fiber is a type of carbohydrate.  So, high fiber/carbohydrate snacks could trigger Gastric Beriberi.   Since blood tests for Thiamine and other B vitamins are so inaccurate, the World Health Organization recommends trying Thiamine and looking for health improvement because it's safe and nontoxic.
