Advice needed

I have just been diagnosed about a month ago. The only symptom I’ve ever had is extreme bloating and had it for many years.
So I’ve now been gluten free for just under a month. Yesterday I went out for lunch with a friend and thought I would try pancakes. Like I said my symptoms have just been bloating so I figured what’s the worst could happen! From about 0200 and for the last 5 hours I have experienced really really bad diarrhoea and feel sick. Is this because I’ve been gluten free for a month and just had the pancakes? This a completely different symptom than I’ve ever experienced.
last weekend I had drambuie, not thinking anything of it. About the same kind of time (0200) I was violently sick on and off for about 4 hours. I found an article on here that suggested not everyone is affected by drambuie due to the distillation process, but some are.
I just wanted some advice. Is this a sheer coincidence that I’ve been ill or is this my body reacting to gluten and it’s so extreme because I’ve not had any for a month.

Hello AnnaHH and welcome.

The short answer is yes.

Gluten has an opiod effect that essentially numbs the body.  When you stop eating gluten the effect wears off and new gluten intake hits you harder than it used to do.

Eating gluten, I got addicted to 7-11's buttered hard rolls, turned me into an alcoholic in 1984 and gluten free diet freed me from it in 2014 after kess than a week.

We do get reports on this forum of people who get "glutened" from drinking distilled spirits. Theoretically, it should not happen.

Some people who go gluten-free seem to get more sensitive to it after a while of not eating it. It's unfortunate that you are having issues staying on a gluten-free diet, and hopefully your doctors informed you of how damaging gluten can be in those with celiac disease. Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
