Hi all,

I was diagnosed about 3 or so years ago now and I think last week I made me first major mistake…

I was diagnosed early so I never really had symptoms and had assumed I was silent coeliacs.. I had gluten a couple of time in early diagnosis and didn’t have much reaction but been super strict since then…. Well last Friday (10 days ago) I went to a bar with some friends and had a draught coke… the next day I felt nauseous and have done on and off ever since.. I’ve also had gurgley tummy and cramps, toilet troubles on and off since then.. is it possible that the draught Coke was a cheap version and could have had gluten in?! Not sure what else it could be.. And when will I stop feeling so awful Id hoped it would be gone by now!! 😭

So sorry to hear you've been so sick!  I can't speak to "cheap versions" of soda, but I never order anything that comes through a hose that could potentially be cross-contaminated with other fluids.  For example, I don't ever trust draft gluten-free beer or cider.  I'll only drink it if it comes in a bottle.  I'm a bourbon drinker myself and always order it straight-up, on the rocks.  I never get it mixed with soda, because all soda in a bar comes through a hose.

There's also always a chance it was something else that made you sick.  And everyone gets different symptoms that can last different lengths of time.  So I can't speak to how long it will last for you - hopefully by now you're feeling better!

In general a vast majority of sodas are gluten-free and made with corn sugar, but without knowing exactly what it was it is difficult to say for sure. However, eating large amounts of sugar can cause changes to your gut flora, and cause bacterial overgrowth in some cases. Do you drink sugary sodas often?

Thank you for explaining! This makes sense.

I have been looking for new dishes. I was surprised to find dishes made of wheat straw. Are these safe for us? I'm very careful to avoid products that may contain gluten. I never thought I might have to check for wheat in dishes.

Welcome to the forum, @Hope07! The reference range would refer to what is considered normal in healthy people. So, 7 or less would mean there is no indication of "active" celiac disease. Apparently, you are doing very will in avoiding gluten. The "Tissue Transglutaminase IGA" is the centerpiece antibody test that clinicians run when checking for celiac disease. My only reservation would be that whenever the TTG-IGA test is run, a "total IGA" test should also be run to check for IGA deficiency. When IGA deficiency is present, other IGA tests, such as the TTG-IGA can be artificially low and result in false positives. In the absence of any symptoms indicating your celiac disease is not under control, however, I would take the result you posted at face value.

Going on a cruise next week and I’m a celiac. Bought a bottle of GliandinX. Should I just take two tablets per day as a precaution? Never tried this before!! Any help is appreciated!!

Hola! Not sure if I’m asking this in the right place so apologies if not! I just had a full blood count as part of my first check up after being diagnosed with celiac disease 7 years ago!! With Covid lockdowns then living in Spain for 3 years and now back in the UK, I kept getting missed in the system but finally I’ve had a check up! Does anyone know what this means?  Tissu transglutaminase IgA lev:  0.30 U/ml Reference range:  Below 7 Thank you!
