Another Great Outback Experience!

We went to Outback last night....the waitress was great. She took my steak order, and then I ordered veggies with no seasonings as per the gluten-free menu, and she got a yellow highlighter on the order and highlighted the non-gluten stuff over and over (and wrote GLUTEN FREE really big on the order tag and highlighted that). I asked if I could get plain onions grilled in butter, and they did that for the steak. She was just so careful and attentive, it was refreshing. THe steak was FABULOUS, also, and the veggies were plentiful and good (mix of broccoli, carrots, summer squash, snow peas). I feel great the next day, so no CC that I know of!

MMMMM.....Yummy!!! They have the best veggies of any restaurant I've ever been to!! (I prefer getting just the broccoli though!) What steak did you get? *mouth watering* I just might have to ignore my hubby about spending less money eating out and order dinner tonight!! :D The best steak is the Filet (it's the smallest though)... so tender. I never ever ever ate steak until I worked at Outback. I thought it was disgusting. I guess that's because I've never had a GOOD steak before. I never knew what I could be missing out on. (Though I learned a lesson pretty quick - not all restaurants have steak like they do - don't get it at Applebees....YUCK!) Oh my...I think I need to order some soon! :)

Oh - and I'm so glad to hear you didn't get sick!! That makes the food taste even better!

Let me just add on to your great Outback experience. We just went there for dinner tonight. I ordered the filet with garlic mashed potatos. The waitress was very nice and definitely understood how important gluten free was. Now here's the impressive part. I ordered mashed potatos, but my meal came out with veggies. I didn't order veggies so I never said no seasoning on the veggies. My waitress was well-versed enough on gluten free that SHE KNEW TO KEEP THEM SEASONING FREE!!! I couldn't believe it!!! My order may have been screwed up, but I didn't care. She actually knew enough about the gluten free menu that she knew to tell them no seasoning, even though I never mentioned it. This was the Lancaster, PA location. What a great experience!

Wow! Its wonderful to hear all the great experiences at the Outback. I have had them there too. We are going to try Carrabas this week. A nite out me and boyfriend only! (leaving the baby home!) I am hoping that our experience there will be as good as the Outback.

Carrabba's is my absolute favorite. Just make sure if you get a grilled item that you mention emphatically that they need to clean the section of the grill where they'll be cooking your food. Their grill baste is not gluten free. Enjoy!

Another shout-out to Outback here... went there last night. I had printed the gluten-free menu off their web site but I asked for one when we got there anyway (just to sort of raise awareness and to show appreciation that they had them on-site).

The waitress brought the menu with no surprise or confusion at all. When we all ordered, she was reading the orders back and said "...and you had the Drover's Platter, gluten-free..." as though it were the most natural thing in the world. :) I didn't have to specify everything as the menu says you need to do -- she already knew and they brought out the platter without the apples rather than having me need to tell them.

It was absolutely awesome! I haven't been on the diet long enough to know whether there was any cc (I'm still sick all the time regardless), but I was extremely impressed.

Does anyone know whether the bacon bits on the mashed potato are gluten-free? I ordered it without just to be safe, since the ones in my pantry at home contained gluten, but the menu didn't specify what you could get on the potato (if anything) so I was curious.

Yay, Outback! I will be returning many times!

      So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

      hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
