Question About Abdominal Noise

Mr J Rookie

its nice to know where all the noise is coming from and should be a comfort to the borborygmi (what an expressive sounding name! never heard of it before this thread, sounds latin to me) afflicted to understand that the stomach is an autonomous mixing machine. you can try finding a socially appropriate human and get them to put their ear on your stomach while it is in normal quiet mode. They should be able to confirm that some sort of quiet churning is going on in there. the general term for the rhythmical contraction of the smooth muscle is called motility . Smooth muscle is also present in the small and large intestines, necessary to get throughput (my non-medical term). Too much motility in the intestines means D, too little means C. i've generally had low motility thru all 3 sections with the stomach being close to paralysis - prior to eradicating gluten.

the ear on the stomach test when comparing stomach noises with my wife gives the impression that i now have quite normal churning action but louder volume - although not beyond the borborygmi threshold - a subjective threshold which i consider myself to be below coz i can hold conversations with non-relatives without getting embarassed.

nevertheless i create a moderate amount of noise and my theory for this is the imperfect digestion that i have. I have to take quite large amounts of digestive enzymes to keep my system function. My gastro specialist doesn't think i need them due to normal tests being returned by i know otherwise from experience. Enzyme supplements can't do such a good job as naturally produced ones, so think the noise is from non-optimal digestion combined with a healthy amount of motility.

so to those who consider themselves beyond the borborygmi threshold when glutened, maybe its coming from the bodies refusal to properly process the gluto and gliadin proteins plus maybe even increased motility in order to try and get the stuff thru and out of their system as soon as possible? i'm just guessing

Thanks Mike--makes sense to me! :)

Hy,

This rumbling also happens to me (to my great shame in public) but it's mostly either when I'm hungry or (especially) when I am stressed.

It seems that there is nothing like a silent room full or unknown people (which kind of stresses me) to make my stomach rumble stronger. And this is really embarasing.

Do you guys have any ideeas ? I've also read that it could be due to my diet but I somehow suspect that it's also my stress-sensitivity issue (or somethink like it).

Does anyone else experience excessive abdominal noise/rumbling/gurgling? (the technical name is borborygmi). I seem to be experiencing this day and night and can't figure out what it is about.

Help! Anyone else?

Hi,

Some people have hyper bowel sounds some have hypo. The sounds could mean that the bowels are just working or it could be brought on by some foods or medication. The difference is in the occurence of other symptoms of GI.

I used to tell people it was wolverines trying to scream their way out of me! My daughter calls the noise her alien baby... haha.

After waisted time of new care team, yet again EXHAUSTED saw new gi today in Modesto, though all my ailments im not getting any kind of concern of me being celiac and sentive to just about everything since menopause. Dr daid why don't I go see you guys because my blood shows zero for celiac. I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute, and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.
