OK, so I've been excessively tired and my stomach is generally unhappy lately. Maybe I'm getting gluten from somewhere? The things I use that I'm not sure about are:

Olay moisturizer (which is P&G, and they're useless)

St. Ives Medicated Apricot Scrub

Johnson's Softwash Calming Bodywash

Johnson's Softlotion 24 hour moisture

Anyone know anything about these products? The ingredients on all of them look safe...

Do I have to worry about gluten from handsoap? Like in the bathroom at work?

Help is appreciated...

Thanks for contacting Olay,Tamar.

We know Celiac is a serious disease, so we want to give you clear information regarding the use of our beauty care products. If wheat and/or gluten aren't directly added to a product by us, these ingredients won't be listed on our packages. Like many companies, we often purchase the scents for fragranced products from outside suppliers, and the components of these substances are proprietary information belonging to those companies. Therefore it's possible that a very small amount (generally parts per million) of gluten may be present.

We sought advice from physicians; they told us it would be very unlikely a person with Celiac disease would have a reaction from a trace amount of gluten coming into contact with his skin or hair. This is because wheat, rye, barley and/or gluten generally cause symptoms when they're ingested. Since our beauty care products are designed to be used externally on the skin, their use shouldn't be an issue for someone with this disease.

Since gluten sensitivity can vary among people, it would be best if you consulted with your physician about the use of all types of consumable goods, if you haven't already. You might even consider using one of our fragrance free products that doesn't list gluten or wheat extracts on the label.

I hope this response has been helpful to you. For more information about Celiac, you may want to check out Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link

Thanks again for getting in touch with us.

@Heatherisle, You have good reason to worry.   Ask the doctors to do an Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity Assay to test for Thiamine B1 deficiency.  Thiamine deficiency is frequently found in B12 deficiency.  Deficiencies in all the B vitamins are common with malabsorption due to Celiac disease.  Thiamine can run out in as little as three days.   Thiamine deficiency symptoms can be mistaken for other diseases such as MS and Guillian-Barre Syndrome.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms include pain in legs and abdominal pain as well as depression and gastrointestinal symptoms. Thiamine B1, Pyridoxine B6 and Cobalamine B 12 together relieve nerve pain. Hi  There’s been no mention of her adrenal glands as far as I know
    • Theresa2407
Have they checked her Adrenal glands.
    • Heatherisle
Just an update on my daughter. She is still in hospital and getting quite depressed about everything. She had a CT scan of head and chest to rule out stroke in view of her symptoms. Thankfully there is no evidence of that so they now want to do an MRI to rule out MS so this is freaking her out and it’s not doing me much good either!!!They’re also going to do further blood tests to check vitamin levels. My husband and I are trying to reassure her the best we can that hopefully it’s just her body’s reaction to having the Vitamin B medication and it’s affecting her nervous system etc. Think the tingling has subsided but still having some lower back and pelvic pain and some leg pain. Thanks for reading and my apologies if I sound paranoid.
