Hi there,

Anyone who has had an upper GI endoscopy should be able to help me.

Just wondering if you think i'll need to take any extra days off work afterwards or if it should be ok to go back the next day

Thanks

I had both upper & colonoscopy on the same day, & my only real symptom was a headache the following day. I think this was partly dehydration & low blood sugar, but it may also have been related to the anesthesia. I did work that day, but not for a full 8 hours, nor was I up to my usual level of concentration. By the following day I was fine.

I had both done at the same time, too (my Dr called it a double-decker!) and I was pretty well back to my normal self an hour later. I had some major blood sugar swings because my blood sugar was low when I got there and they put me on a glucose drip and sent my sugar sky-high, but other than that (that took a few days to get back to normal) I was fine.

Some people are groggy all afternoon - I was not at all. I went back to work the next day, no prob, but I do have a computer/desk job.

I had both an endoscopy and a colonoscopy on the same day and I wish I had taken the day after off.

A week later I had just an endoscopy done and I really felt fine the next day, but still kind of wish I had taken the day off just to take a day off, lol.

The endoscopy was a piece of cake. I was a little out of it for a couple hours but then back to normal. You should be fine to work the next day.

For my colonoscopy the doctor told me if I work on my feet then its best to take the following day off...so they gave me a note for 2 days off.

Thanks all!

Ok after reading all the responses it seems like the best idea is for me to take the day after off!

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
