It seems pretty pricey - $25 for 6 #. Is there anything I could use instead?

(Bette Hagman's 4 flour blend calls for it...)

I couldn't get Authentic Foods stuff here in KS without ordering it on the internet so I used Bob's Red Mill Garbanzo Fava Bean Flour. I made Bette's 4 flour blend with it and we are really pleased. I got a small bag at our health food store and then ordered a bunch directly from Bob's Red Mill. (Shipping wasn't the cheapest but it was still cheaper than buying a bunch of little bags at the store and simpler) I noticed they now carry it on Amazon and currently have a grocery special where if you spend $49 on groceries you get $10 off instantly. (and of course free shipping) :D

If you can tolerate beans (my husband and son can) you will love the four flour blend. I used it for other of my normal recipes and it seems to work really well. We also like the bread and muffins made with it.

I am trying to get amazon to come up but our dial up internet is taking forever so I guess I'll let you price it yourself. I know when I checked earlier this year Bob's Red Mill was cheaper for me than Authentic Foods. :) Kendra

Ok--internet finally is coming through here. 88 ounces or 5.5 pounds of Garbanzo Fava Flour is $14 on amazon. (Free shipping if you spend $25 and $10 off if you spend $49 just on groceries which isn't hard to do if you are buying gluten-free stuff!)

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
