If I went out to eat, could I order potato skins? Is there gluten in the way potato skins are made?

I was wondering if anyone knows..

thanks!

I should think that the potato skins were deepfried and perhaps the same oil as the crispy fried chicken breast.....Gluten is more complex than most people think. I hope that you will no bet glutened.

Hope that helps, Lisa

PS - no stupid questions here!

Usually, the skins are deep fried, and usually with other gluten-containing items. The bacon could also be suspect.

I just make them at home :)

I never heard of any place that sells potatoe skins but if there was then I imagine the gluten issue would depend entirely on whether they used contaminated kitchenware to do the job. Also, I would think it would be deep-fried and the oil used could/probably would be contaminated.

That's what I thought. I miss ordering what I REALLY want at restaurants. I guess it'll get better with time.

Thanks for the help.

I"m not sure I understand your question...are you asking if someplace has potatoe skins on the menu? or if someone will special peel potatoes for you? I never heard of any place like that. If there was then I imagine the gluten issue would depend entirely on whether they used contaminated kitchenware to do the job. May I ask why you would want only the skins?

You find them at a lot of bars and the like. I think TGIFridays probably has the most famous ones.

They are potatoes that are baked until done, and then most of the insides are scooped out (leaving about 1/4" of the flesh on the skin), and then those are deep fried. You then top the now sliced and fried skins are topped with cheese, bacon, and chives (and other things depending on recipe), and then those are baked.

Very fattening, but very good.

Simply ask that they be done in the oven. They are yummy done that way, and safe :D

You should probably call ahead to find out whether it is a purchased product or they make it there. Then make sure there is no wheat in the ingredients. I've had some in the past that looked like they were floured before frying.

I used to order potato skins from a Mexican restaurant in our neighborhood. LOADED WITH FAT but OH SO GOOD. They were deep fat fried, topped with greasy seasoned meat, cheese, sour cream, bacon and fresh tomatoes (the ONLY good food in the whole mess).

I miss them!

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
