Lactase Enzymes

Hi, after a long drawn out process, we believe my son is also lactose intolerant (he is 5 and diagnosed a year ago with Celiac). Our ped. said to try to remove the lactose from his diet and see if there is improvement which we did (we are using Lactaid). We instantly saw imrpovement. My ped. GI though, diagreed and said he believes it is the Acidophilus that is helping and that if I insist, he will do a lactose test. So I set up the test for the first week of August and decided to try taking him off the Lactaid to see if there is any change, maybe it is the Acidophilus. Well I took him off the Lactaid two nights ago and low and behold his stomach started up again yesterday. So I chalked it up to maybe he was just heading into a bad spell anyway so lets give it another day (he goes through cycles of good and bad days). Well today was simply awful. When he is sick with his stomach, he rarely admits it but his behavior just screams it. He becomes hyper active and very obnoxious. Today was like someone wound him up and he was out of control. He also couldn't eat much (another sign that his stomach is sick, although he did drink milk today). So with dinner tonight I tried again with the Lactaid because I felt so bad to see this change in him again. I am desperate. Anyway, he took a chewable tablet while trying to eat and drink his milk. He took 2 sips and 2 bites and said he couldn't eat. He left the table and continued to jump around (it really is crazy). To my surprise, 15 minutes later he came back to the table and ate 1 and a half hotdogs and a whole glass of milk. He was happy and calm. Could this really be connected? I am so confused. If I see this improvement is there any need to make him go through the fasting for the test? I know it sounds silly after all of the other tests he has been through but enough is enough. And also, can the lactase enzyme hurt him if it turns out this is not his problem? Any advice would be appreciated.

Nicole

P.S. He already tested negative for other food intolerances including milk protein.

the lactase enzyme won't hurt him - but for it to be effective, it really works best to take it a few minutes (3 or 4) before starting in on the dairy. you can do the lab test, or can just go off symptoms - seems pretty obvious to me.

I’m having this type of MRI this afternoon,  What specifically do you want to know?  From what I’ve read, not all facilities use the same drink prep.

Hi I've been told I need a MRI on my bowels , I was booked for a colonoscopy, but because of my sever back issues and trapped nerve it can't be done , the nurse told me I will have to have a manitol drink a hour before the scan , I'm just a bit worried has I have issues with sweeteners like even a little,  I get a weird throat and ears and I've read it is a similar substance , not sure if anyone has had one of these scans or could give me some advise on the drink prep thanks in advance 😄

Hi all ! Can a celiac attack be so intense that it causes your entire body to work in reverse? Meaning really bad pain,  neuropathy and muscle,  jaw pain,  the stomach issues , Horrible anxiety and confusion??  I had a Tums and you would think I ate poison. My jaw and stomach did not like it . Not the norm for me. Things that are simple are just out of control. Anyone ever have this happen??  I'm trying to figure out what I ate or did to bring on a celiac like attack. I had an idea before but yesterday I didn't have any gluten unless it was in a medication ?! Any positive suggestions ??  Thank you

The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
